Job description
Overview
The Maintenance Technician is charged with servicing and repairing laboratory apparatus, with a particular focus on environmental chambers. This includes managing relationships with external vendors for troubleshooting and maintaining ongoing service agreements. The role also entails coordinating with outside contractors to support facility-related projects and the general upkeep of the premises.
Responsibilities
- Carry out and accurately document daily inspections of laboratory testing devices and related utilities.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance procedures on environmental chambers.
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions, perform repairs, and implement upgrades as required.
- Log all maintenance activities in a computerized tracking system.
- Assist with the installation and validation of new laboratory equipment.
- Organize and coordinate external maintenance service providers.
- Manage inventory levels of key spare parts to ensure readiness.
- Identify and suggest enhancements to improve current maintenance processes.
Knowledge and Skills
- Experience troubleshooting mechanical and electrical equipment, including instrumentation.
- Familiarity with refrigeration and temperature control systems is advantageous.
- Prior exposure to regulated sectors such as medical technology or pharmaceuticals is beneficial.
- Practical knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and pneumatic systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams including electrical and pneumatic schematics.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent teamwork capabilities.
Qualifications and Experience
- At least two years of experience in equipment maintenance or repair.
- Possession of a trade certification or a technical diploma/third-level certificate in a relevant field.
