Job description

Role overview

Pacifica Housing, a growing housing provider with nearly 40 years of experience delivering safe and affordable homes, is hiring a Maintenance Technician to support its Property Services team in Victoria, British Columbia. The organization is guided by values of authenticity, leadership, respect, and social justice, and it is recognized as a Certified Living Wage Employer.

This full-time, regular role is focused on completing scheduled maintenance work orders to the quality standards set by Property Services. The position reports to the Manager of Maintenance and falls under the BCGEU union.

Compensation and schedule

The hourly pay range for this role is $30.58 to $32.93. The work schedule is 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Sunday through Thursday, for 70 hours every two weeks. The posting closes on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at 4:00 pm.

Key duties

  • Carry out maintenance work orders on schedule and in line with established standards.
  • Perform repair and upkeep tasks such as plumbing, appliance work, drywall repair, painting, and minor electrical repairs.
  • Handle residential installations and assembly work, including doors and blinds.
  • Post notices as directed by the Property Services Coordinator or Manager of Maintenance, including tenancy termination and entry notices, while following the Residential Tenancy Act.
  • Clean and restore units during turnover according to society requirements.
  • Report safety incidents, accidents, or injuries immediately to the Manager of Maintenance or Property Services Coordinator.
  • Complete and submit required documentation such as work orders and mileage claims.
  • Maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with supportive housing staff and tenants.
  • Work independently to meet deadlines and finish assigned tasks.
  • Keep the Manager of Maintenance updated on completed work, outstanding issues, and tasks in progress.

Requirements and qualifications

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, along with experience in maintenance or a similar role, ideally in non-profit housing. The employer will consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The role calls for proven building maintenance experience, including the use of hand tools and power tools. A background of about two years in suite renovations or building maintenance is preferred.

Strong practical knowledge of residential building maintenance is required, especially carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work. The job also requires familiarity with mobile phone use for email, text messaging, calls, and calendar management. Additional trade abilities needed include painting, drywall patching and installation, door hardware repair, flooring, and carpentry repairs.

Other conditions for the role include a successful Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check before employment begins, a valid driver’s license, access to a dependable vehicle with at least $2 million in business-class liability insurance, availability for on-call emergency response outside regular hours, and a current Basic First Aid Certificate.

Because the organization works with vulnerable populations, employment is contingent on providing proof of a criminal record check before the start date. Where this position is posted internally and externally at the same time, current members of the collective bargaining unit will be given first consideration.

Benefits and workplace culture

  • Purpose-driven work environment.
  • Competitive pay from a certified living wage employer.
  • At least 6% vacation accrual for regular employees.
  • Comprehensive benefits for regular staff, including extended health and dental coverage, life insurance, and more.
  • BCGEU pension plan.
  • Employee assistance program.
  • Wellness time.
  • Opportunities for career growth and internal advancement.
  • Training opportunities for both the organization and the individual.
  • Team-building activities and staff social events.
  • Dog-friendly offices.

Safety and inclusion

Pacifica Housing notes that its work environment involves inherent risks such as violence, injury, and harm in social housing and direct support settings, including work in homes and other support relationships. The organization says it is committed to maintaining a safe workplace while acknowledging these risks.

Pacifica Housing also states that it values diversity and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds, including different cultures, ethnicities, races, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, countries of origin, ages, languages, veteran status, religions, colours, and abilities.
