Role overview
The Public Defence Service’s North Shore office in Albany is hiring an entry-level Legal Support Assistant to join a busy legal support team. This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys helping people, works well in a fast-paced environment, and is comfortable using a keyboard and handling everyday office tasks.
What you’ll do
- Support legal secretaries and contribute to the smooth running of the office.
- Create new client files and organise legal paperwork.
- Handle client disclosure processing.
- Cover the reception area and carry out a range of general administrative duties.
What the role is about
You’ll be part of the Public Defence Service (PDS), which provides legal advice and representation in criminal matters. The PDS sits within the Ministry of Justice and operates with a strong focus on access to justice and excellent client service.
Skills and experience
This position is suited to someone who may already have some background in a customer-focused professional setting and has done general administration work before. It also offers an opportunity to begin a career in criminal law and build experience from the ground up.

Salary
The offered salary range is NZ$56,343 to NZ$70,144, depending on your skills and experience.
