Role Summary

This is a full-time, on-site Legal Assistant position in Christchurch. In this role, you will work closely with family lawyers to keep daily legal work moving efficiently. The position involves preparing, formatting, and organising legal documents and correspondence, as well as keeping client records up to date, arranging appointments and court dates, and managing diaries. You will also help coordinate communication with clients and outside contacts, while carrying out general administrative support such as data entry, scanning documents, and assisting with day-to-day office operations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Practical understanding of what a Legal Assistant does.
  • Strong capability in preparing legal documents, including drafting, formatting, and checking them carefully for accuracy.
  • Clear written and spoken communication skills for dealing with clients and collaborating within the team.
  • Background in administrative support, such as file organisation, calendar coordination, and office process assistance.
  • Good attention to detail, solid organisational ability, and comfort handling several tasks and deadlines at once.
  • Familiarity with standard office and legal software, including word processing tools, document management platforms, and case management systems.
  • Ability to safeguard confidential information and manage sensitive matters professionally and discreetly.
  • Previous experience in a law firm or legal setting is helpful, but not required for a suitably capable candidate.
  • Experience with legal aid matters would be an added advantage.
