About the Role
Dynacare is hiring a Laboratory Assistant for its LHSC operation in Kelowna. In this permanent full-time position, you will support patient care by handling laboratory specimens, entering requisitions and results with precision, and delivering compassionate service to patients who may be under stress. The role is based at Kelowna Main LHSC (5N) and requires full-time on-site work.
Schedule & Work Location
This is a permanent full-time position with working hours scheduled Monday to Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The role is fully onsite. The internal deadline for applications is Monday, July 6, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. EST.
Key Duties
You will be responsible for accurately processing blood samples and other laboratory specimens in a timely manner, while helping ensure patients receive a smooth and reassuring experience. The work combines technical accuracy with customer care and attention to confidentiality.
- Deliver a high-quality patient and customer experience when interacting with individuals using Dynacare’s products and services.
- Enter patient, test, and requisition details accurately for Ministry of Health documentation.
- Collect blood samples and other specimens using safe and effective venipuncture techniques.
- Sort and direct specimens, and carry out ECGs as required.
- Prepare specimens and related paperwork according to SOPs so they are ready for data entry and transport to the laboratory.
- Follow approved procedures for both acceptable and unsuitable samples.
- Protect confidential information and contribute to quality, compliance, and performance targets.

What You Need
- CSMLS or BCSLS certification, or completion of an MLA program recognized by BCSLS or an equivalent Canadian awarding body.
- Applicants may also be considered with a bachelor’s degree in a related science field or nursing, or an international MLA/MLT qualification, plus at least 1 year of patient-facing phlebotomy experience.
- Strong customer focus and genuine concern for patient well-being.
- Confident phlebotomy skills and the ability to support anxious patients in a calm and reassuring way.
- Good self-management and the ability to handle deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken, to provide clear instructions to patients.
- Ability to work shifts across different LHSC sites in the region.
- Typing speed of 25 to 40 words per minute.
Working Conditions
The role involves both office and medical laboratory environments. You should be prepared for repetitive walking, prolonged sitting or standing, extensive computer use, and occasional bending or other physical movements. The position may require lifting up to 30 pounds and working around bio-hazardous materials, temperature changes, and noise variations. Float assignments across listed locations may also be required.
Pay
The hiring range for this role is $27.00 to $30.75 per hour. Final compensation will depend on factors such as experience and education.
