Role Overview

The Business Information Technology Department is looking for a committed Lab Assistant to help students and faculty with practical learning activities. This role involves supporting lab sessions, preparing lab manuals, and assisting students with Data Science and IT tools. The position also includes mentoring learners on individual assignments and group projects to support both academic success and professional growth.

Responsibilities

• Assist in delivering lab sessions across different computer science and information technology subjects.
• Demonstrate software applications, programming tools, and IT systems to improve student comprehension of the curriculum.
• Develop, revise, and keep lab manuals, teaching aids, and related documentation up to date.
• Work with faculty members to design lab activities that match course goals and expected learning outcomes.
• Keep up with new technologies, teaching tools, and methods relevant to computer science and IT education.
• Ensure the lab remains safe, orderly, and fully functional by overseeing equipment, software, and resources.
• Offer academic guidance and one-to-one support to students during lab sessions and project discussions.
• Help students complete lab tasks, team projects, and practical exercises successfully.
• Contribute to student assessment by sharing feedback on participation and lab performance.
• Take part in departmental meetings, training, and other professional development activities as needed.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related discipline is mandatory; a master’s degree is an advantage.
• Must have 1 to 3 years of relevant professional experience.
• Strong grasp of core computer science and IT topics, including programming, web development, databases, networking, data science, and data structures.
• Practical knowledge of languages and scripting tools such as Python, Java, and C++.
• Experience using development platforms and IDEs such as RapidMiner and NetBeans.
• Working familiarity with IT systems, networking, Windows/Linux operating systems, and cloud environments.
• Good verbal and written communication skills for interacting effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
• Exposure to data science tools, software engineering practices, and cybersecurity basics will be considered a plus.
