Job description
Position overview
The UCLA Department of Psychology is seeking a part-time lab assistant to support the SPHERE Lab in both research and administrative work. This role partners with Dr. Wilson to coordinate day-to-day lab activities and contribute across multiple stages of the research cycle.
What the role involves
The position includes participant recruitment, building and maintaining recruitment and tracking databases, preparing IRB submissions, collecting data through multiple approaches, supervising volunteer assistants, and supporting data handling and analysis. The lab’s work centers on stigma, substance use, sexual health and behavior, and mental health in racial/ethnic minority and LGBTQ communities.
Research methods used in the lab may include field studies, ecological momentary assessment and other intensive longitudinal approaches, experiments including randomized controlled trials, biomarker and physiological measurements, and qualitative research.
Administrative duties
In addition to research support, the lab assistant will help prepare presentations and manuscripts, purchase supplies, manage petty cash, and keep the lab website updated.

Qualifications and skills
The ideal candidate brings research-lab experience or volunteering exposure, especially with research design, statistics, and a range of methods such as longitudinal, field, experimental, and mixed-methods research. Strong communication, organization, confidentiality, multitasking, independent work habits, and the ability to manage teams and meetings are important.
Comfort with word processing, email, spreadsheets, and web-based tools is required, along with strong writing mechanics and presentation skills. Familiarity with preregistration workflows, REDCap, Qualtrics, SPSS, R, conference submissions, publication processes, UCLA payment systems, and UCLA IRB/Human Subjects procedures is preferred.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in psychology, psychobiology, or a related discipline is preferred, or an equivalent mix of education and experience/training.
Employment conditions
Employment depends on a satisfactory background investigation, and a Live Scan background check must be completed before the start date.
Schedule
Work hours are 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
