Job description

Role overview

Content Engine Studios’ production function turns creative ideas into finished work through organised project delivery, strong communication, and practical problem-solving. The studio produces a broad mix of content for Shell, including documentary films, scripted pieces, animation, live events, and short-form social content.

Reporting to the Head of Production, this role involves independently managing a portfolio of projects with guidance from the Senior Project Manager and Executive Producer. It is designed as a progression from a support-focused position and gives the successful candidate the chance to build production leadership capability while working closely with creative teams and internal stakeholders.

The Junior Producer is accountable for delivering projects successfully across budget, logistics, HSSE, legal, brand compliance, and client communication needs. The exact balance of duties will change depending on the size and complexity of each project.

Once budgets are signed off, this person will take charge of resource planning, make sure briefs are clearly understood, align plans with creative teams, and communicate deliverables clearly to stakeholders.

For larger or more complex productions, the role also includes helping source and manage freelance specialists such as researchers, assistant producers, editors, animators, composers, and other production talent. The Junior Producer will handle day-to-day production coordination while staying closely connected with the Creative team and Executive Producer to ensure strong-quality output and a positive client experience.

The initial project range is typically £10k to £70k, with a clear development route towards managing productions worth £150k and above.

Responsibilities

  • Run several projects at once, usually covering at least four productions at different stages of development, pre-production, production, and post-production.
  • Keep schedules, timelines, status trackers, and delivery plans up to date.
  • Organise internal meetings, production calls, and day-to-day project communication.
  • Plan and oversee shoots, recordings, and content production activities, including logistics, scheduling, call sheets, bookings, and supplier coordination.
  • Work with freelancers, vendors, and production partners to keep delivery on track.
  • Assign tasks to Production Assistants and Runners and monitor progress.
  • Manage assets and final outputs so they meet client, brand, and platform standards.
  • Monitor budgets and cost reports for each project.
  • Prepare monthly financial updates for the Head of Production and Finance team.
  • Raise purchase orders and track invoices and spending.
  • Support the application of HSSE requirements across productions, with training provided where needed.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, contractual, and brand governance requirements.
  • Keep communication flowing with clients and stakeholders throughout the production cycle.
  • Escalate issues appropriately and seek support from the Senior Project Manager or Executive Producer when necessary.
  • Build strong working relationships that contribute to an excellent client experience.
  • Take part in brainstorms, editorial discussions, team meetings, creative initiatives, and company events.
  • Represent and promote the team’s work, achievements, and future opportunities to clients and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Background in branded content production and project management.
  • Previous experience in a role such as Senior Coordinator, Production Coordinator, or Junior Production Manager.
  • Ability to interpret client briefs and turn them into well-managed productions.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the confidence to build trusted working relationships.
  • Excellent organisation and the ability to juggle multiple projects, deadlines, budgets, and priorities at the same time.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented approach with clear and effective communication.
  • Solid understanding of production workflows across development, pre-production, production, and post-production.
  • Interest in new content trends, including AI tools, social media, branded content, advertising, film, and television.
  • Awareness of the creative talent market and the ability to identify and engage strong freelance collaborators.
  • Commitment to understanding Shell’s business, brand values, guidelines, HSSE expectations, and legal obligations to keep productions compliant and valuable.
  • Collaborative team mindset with a willingness to contribute beyond core project delivery.
