Role overview

The team is seeking a Junior Mechanical Technician to join the Auckland Airport site and take responsibility for the operation and maintenance of baggage conveyor systems.

Key duties

  • Run the baggage handling system in line with the agreed service levels and intended operating setup.
  • Carry out assigned work accurately, effectively, and within required timeframes.
  • Keep operational and maintenance documentation complete, clear, and up to date.
  • Handle both planned preventative maintenance and urgent corrective repairs.

Shift pattern

This position involves rotating shift work, so applicants should be comfortable working on a changing roster. Shifts operate from 2:00 am to 2:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 2:00 am.

Skills, experience, and requirements

  • Prior experience in an industrial setting is needed to work safely and effectively in this environment.
  • A full driver’s licence is mandatory, as the role requires the operation of machinery.
  • Experience with maintaining equipment is required.
  • Knowledge of conveyor systems or similar mechanical equipment is desirable.
  • Ability to diagnose faults and solve problems independently is important.
  • Strong work discipline and good time management are expected.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • You should be a dependable team contributor.
  • An elevated work platform licence is preferred.
  • Welding experience is preferred.
