Opportunity
The Toronto studio is hiring a Junior Interior Designer for its Interiors Practice, with a focus on corporate workspace projects. This role suits someone highly motivated, creatively driven, and eager to contribute to a fast-paced, collaborative, high-performing team within a global, multidisciplinary environment. The position involves working closely with architects, engineers, contractors, suppliers, regulators, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the team to create persuasive, clear proposals and presentation materials.
- Join senior team members in client meetings and present ideas effectively when required.
- Develop space plans, with direction, that align with project programs, functional needs, design intent, and applicable building code requirements.
- Contribute to 2D and 3D concept development, with a strong focus on high-quality visual renderings.
- Research and recommend finishes and furnishings that satisfy functional, visual, environmental, and budget goals, while considering how materials, light, colour, and texture shape the space.
- Assist in preparing documentation for the selection, specification, procurement, and installation of furniture and equipment, including detailed layouts and schedules.
- Support the production of design development and contract documents such as plans, elevations, sections, and schedules using REVIT and AutoCAD.
- Develop an understanding of plan requirements, life safety considerations, building codes, and related technical details.
- Apply knowledge of interior design, drafting, detailing, finishes, materials, specifications, codes, contract administration, and business practices.
- Support permit and tender submissions as needed.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- A degree or diploma from a CIDA-accredited interior design program.
- Up to 3 years of experience at a respected interior design or architectural firm.
- Membership in ARIDO or another relevant regulatory body.
- NCIDQ certification completed or currently in progress.
- LEED Green Associate certification completed or currently in progress.
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, REVIT, Windows applications such as Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint, plus 3D design tools including Enscape, SketchUp, Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
- A strong portfolio showcasing varied creative work, ideally with a workplace focus; hospitality or healthcare examples are an added advantage.
- Evidence of engagement in the interior design profession through volunteer work, ARIDO or IDC events, or committee participation.
- Comfort with technology and the ability to quickly learn new software and applications.
- Advanced proficiency in REVIT for both planning and 3D modeling.
- Ability to work independently while knowing when to seek guidance and support.
- Open to coaching, feedback, and rapid learning.
- Excellent time management and organizational ability.
- A positive attitude, patience, and genuine passion for the work.
