Job description

Company Overview

Voltas is a U.S.-based medical device development and manufacturing company that provides a complete product journey under one roof. Its capabilities span early-stage research and development, prototyping, regulatory support, and commercialization. The company works with hardware and software, sensors and wearables, app development, PCB design, and advanced manufacturing techniques such as injection molding, welding, and balloon development. It also helps with regulatory filings, sterilization validation, user testing, and usability studies so products can move toward launch in a compliant way. Beyond product development, Voltas supports packaging, labeling, marketing, social media, e-commerce, distribution, warehousing, and medical sales, enabling teams to bring ideas to market with one project manager, one budget, and one timeline.

Role Summary

The Junior Industrial Designer role is a hands-on onsite opportunity in the United States focused on supporting the creation of medical devices and related products. You will work within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to concept development, sketching, CAD work, and physical prototype building for user testing and form-factor exploration. The position offers exposure to the full product development process in a regulated environment.

What You Will Do

  • Support concept generation for medical devices and adjacent product work.
  • Create sketches, CAD models, and prototype iterations for design exploration.
  • Build physical prototypes to support user testing and evaluation of form factors.
  • Work closely with engineers, product managers, and regulatory specialists to improve designs.
  • Adjust concepts to reflect usability findings, manufacturing limits, and clinical needs.
  • Prepare design documents and keep project records organized and clear.
  • Take part in design review meetings and present design progress as needed.
  • Contribute to presentations, animations, and other visual assets that explain design intent.

Requirements

Candidates should have a strong base in industrial design and product design, with the ability to turn user needs and technical inputs into workable concepts. Experience or coursework in prototyping and product development is important, along with familiarity with design thinking, user-centered research, ideation, and iterative problem-solving. Applicants should be comfortable using standard CAD and design tools such as SolidWorks or Fusion 360, and should also be able to sketch and communicate ideas visually. A degree in industrial design, product design, or a related area is required or recently completed. Strong organization, attention to detail, and documentation skills are especially important in a medical device setting. The role also calls for collaboration in an onsite team, openness to feedback, and an interest in medical devices, healthcare technology, and learning about regulatory and manufacturing workflows.

Additional Information

This is an internship-style role based onsite in the United States. The work environment is multidisciplinary and focused on regulated medical device development, with opportunities to gain practical experience across design, prototyping, testing, and commercialization.
