Job description
About the Company
Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) is an independent game studio founded in 2012 by Chris Roberts. The team is building large-scale next-generation AAA games and aims to push creative boundaries, develop new technology, and raise standards across the gaming industry. CIG is community-funded and works closely with a passionate group of supporters who help shape its long-term vision.
Role Overview
As a Junior Environment Artist, you will help create ambitious game locations ranging from deep-space settings to detailed planetary outposts. You will join the Star Citizen Environment Art team and contribute to building environments at a very large scale.
This position is focused on learning and growth. You will support the production of high-quality hard-surface environments such as huge space stations, wide city areas, and atmospheric underground spaces. With guidance from senior artists, you will develop skills in cinematic sci-fi realism and learn how to craft believable worlds that pull players into the game universe.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and adapt mid-poly assets for realistic sci-fi environments, including architectural kits and smaller prop collections.
- Help assemble and decorate game environments inside the studio’s proprietary engine while keeping both visual quality and technical limits in mind.
- Work with art leads to review feedback, improve attention to detail, and better understand the reasoning behind the team’s visual direction.
- Collaborate with design, lighting, and VFX teams to ensure the art supports gameplay and runs efficiently.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for an artist with strong potential and a willingness to learn. A solid portfolio is important, especially one that shows basic ability in 3D modelling, texturing, and composition. You should have working knowledge of common industry tools such as Maya, 3ds Max, or Blender, along with an understanding of UV layout and PBR texturing.
We also value curiosity for world-building and environmental storytelling. Interest in sci-fi is helpful, but what matters most is motivation to grow. A collaborative attitude is essential, including comfort with asking questions, receiving critique, and improving through teamwork.
Diversity and Inclusion
CIG states that it is committed to an inclusive workplace that welcomes people from all backgrounds, lifestyles, and perspectives. The company aims to build a diverse team and values the unique qualities each person contributes.
Fraud Notice
CIG warns applicants about impersonation scams involving fake websites, email addresses, or social media messages. The company does not ask for sensitive personal information such as bank account or identification numbers through chat-based apps or social media, and it does not request money for equipment purchases. If a scam is suspected, candidates are encouraged to contact local authorities and email info[@]cloudimperiumgames.com with any relevant details.
Additional Note
CIG says people who enjoy rapid growth and a positive, high-energy team environment may find the company a strong fit.
