Role overview
Earth Sciences New Zealand is seeking an IT User Support Specialist to join its nationwide technology support function. In this permanent Auckland-based role, you will help staff stay connected and productive across offices throughout Aotearoa New Zealand, as well as on research vessels and in other remote working settings. The position is part of the NIWA business unit within Earth Sciences New Zealand.
What you will do
- Provide fast, user-centred support by preparing and maintaining devices and access, resolving technical issues efficiently, and keeping users updated throughout the process.
- Work closely with the wider team by sharing knowledge, improving communication, and contributing to a culture of ongoing service improvement.
- Support smooth service delivery by managing priorities, following established procedures, keeping records accurate, and offering remote-first assistance with onsite help where required.
About you
This role suits a practical IT support professional who enjoys helping people and solving everyday technology issues. You will support a wide range of users and systems, including PCs, desktop equipment, mobile devices, collaboration platforms, software, cloud tools, and Microsoft-based environments.
You should be comfortable working with both routine requests and troubleshooting tasks, and you will be joining a collaborative team that values dependable service and continuous improvement.
Experience and skills
- 2 to 3 years of experience in user support, service desk, desktop support, or a similar IT support position
- Strong customer service orientation and the ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Solid troubleshooting ability across PCs, desktop hardware, mobile devices, software, and collaboration tools
- Hands-on experience supporting Microsoft environments
- Exposure to Linux and Mac environments is considered an advantage
- Proactive, positive attitude with a genuine focus on improving the user experience
- Full New Zealand driver licence
