This position is an early- to mid-career IT operations role focused on keeping business technology running smoothly. The job combines end-user support, system administration, troubleshooting, and day-to-day infrastructure upkeep to help employees work efficiently and reliably.

Core duties

Technical support and troubleshooting: Act as a first and second point of contact for issues involving devices, applications, operating systems, and general IT faults.

System administration: Install, set up, maintain, and observe computers, servers, applications, and wider technology infrastructure.

Network support: Help diagnose connectivity problems, Wi-Fi issues, VPN access, and basic network-related tasks.

User account management: Set up and maintain accounts, permissions, passwords, and access controls across internal systems.

Security and compliance: Support security hygiene through updates, antivirus maintenance, cybersecurity practices, data protection, and policy adherence.

Hardware and software administration: Manage devices, software deployment, configurations, inventory, and IT asset records.

Helpdesk operations: Log, prioritize, document, and follow through on support tickets while keeping clear service records.

IT projects and improvements: Assist with system upgrades, software rollouts, cloud-related work, and broader technology improvement initiatives.

Candidate profile

The ideal person should be a strong problem solver with solid technical judgement, good communication skills, and the ability to handle several support requests at once. Careful documentation, attention to detail, basic cybersecurity awareness, and an eagerness to learn new technologies are also important.

Education and technical background

A diploma or bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, Systems Administration, or a related discipline is preferred.

Useful technical knowledge includes operating systems such as Windows, macOS, and Linux; hardware troubleshooting; networking basics like TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP; identity and access management tools such as Active Directory; cloud platforms; and IT service management principles.

Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, ServiceNow, Jira Service Management, remote support tools, backup platforms, and monitoring systems will be helpful.

Preferred certifications

Certifications such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals, and ITIL Foundation are preferred.

Career growth

This role can lead into positions such as Helpdesk Executive or IT Support Technician, then IT Support Specialist, System Administrator, Senior System Administrator, IT Infrastructure Manager, and ultimately IT Director or Chief Information Officer.
