Position overview

This is an entry-level to mid-level role in IT support and infrastructure, focused on keeping technology systems stable, assisting users, and maintaining day-to-day business operations. The role combines technical troubleshooting, system upkeep, network support, and user assistance.

Core responsibilities

Technical support and troubleshooting: Identify and fix problems related to hardware, software, operating systems, and applications.

System administration: Set up, configure, and maintain servers, workstations, and other IT systems.

Network support: Observe network connectivity, solve connectivity issues, and help maintain the network environment.

User account management: Create accounts, update permissions, and handle security access for users.

Software and hardware management: Install, update, and maintain computers, applications, and IT equipment.

Security and compliance: Assist with cybersecurity practices, backup routines, and system protection measures.

IT documentation: Keep accurate records of incidents, fixes, technical procedures, and system-related information.

User assistance: Guide employees, provide training where needed, and offer practical technical support.

Ideal candidate profile

The employer is looking for someone with strong troubleshooting ability, solid IT fundamentals, a service-oriented mindset, and the ability to stay organized while handling multiple support requests.

Education and technical background

A diploma or bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, or a closely related discipline is preferred. The role also expects familiarity with Windows and Linux environments, basic networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN, and hands-on exposure to hardware and software troubleshooting. Knowledge of Active Directory, cloud services, and common IT tools is an advantage. Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft, or Cisco are considered beneficial.

Career progression

This role can lead to a career path that moves from helpdesk support to IT support specialist, system administrator, cloud engineer or network engineer, and then into IT manager, infrastructure manager, or senior leadership roles such as head of IT or CIO.
