Job description

About the Company

Berry Street is a nutrition therapy platform focused on helping people across the United States eat better through evidence-based care. The company connects patients with a broad network of Registered Dietitians and AI-enabled tools to support care for weight management, diabetes, heart health, kidney disease, maternal health, and more than 25 other conditions. Its clinical approach is designed to personalize nutrition support to each person's medical and behavioral needs while improving outcomes and lowering overall care costs. Berry Street partners with major health plans, leading health systems, and care management companies and serves populations in all 50 states.

Founded in January 2023, the company has expanded to more than 1,500 providers and has supported tens of thousands of patients nationwide. It is a Series B-backed startup with investors such as Northzone, Sofina, and FJ Labs, along with angel investors including the founders of Revolut, Spring Health, and Grow Therapy.

About the Role

The Insurance Operations Associate will join the Revenue Cycle Management team and play an active role in improving insurance operations. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys solving messy workflow problems, is naturally curious, and is comfortable using AI tools to improve efficiency. The role is designed for someone who wants real ownership and is excited to help modernize a healthcare process that is ready for change.

You will work at the center of the claims and billing process, investigating issues, spotting patterns, and partnering with the RCM lead to create faster, smarter workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Handle denials, rejections, and billing exceptions from start to finish by investigating the cause and seeing each case through to resolution.
  • Look for repeated issues, identify trends, and suggest ways to improve processes or automate manual work.
  • Use AI tools to reduce repetitive tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to the creation and refinement of internal SOPs and payer-specific playbooks.
  • Track the health of the claims pipeline and identify unusual patterns before they affect revenue.
  • Work with providers to resolve missing documentation, credentialing issues, or coding-related questions.
  • Coordinate with vendors to improve tools and support ongoing setup changes.
  • Escalate complicated payer problems and support special projects aimed at strengthening revenue operations.

Requirements

  • You are a recent graduate or bring 1 to 2 years of experience in healthcare billing, revenue cycle management, insurance operations, or another fast-moving operations role.
  • You have real interest in AI and have used tools like Claude or similar platforms to solve practical problems.
  • You are comfortable working through ambiguity and prefer taking action instead of waiting for detailed instructions.
  • You have strong attention to detail, especially when reviewing numbers, claim information, and payer guidelines.
  • You can communicate clearly in writing, whether drafting a firm appeal letter or sending a brief Slack update.
  • You learn new tools quickly and actively seek ways to automate repetitive work.
  • You can work East Coast hours from 9:00am to 6:00pm ET.
  • It is a plus if you have experience with medical billing software, clearinghouses such as Office Ally or Availity, or CPT/ICD-10 coding.

Benefits

  • Chance to join a mission-driven health tech startup.
  • Hands-on exposure to AI tools and platform operations.
  • Collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Full health coverage, including dental and vision.
  • Citibike membership.
  • Unlimited dietitian care.
  • Ongoing learning and development opportunities.
  • Opportunity to take ownership and help grow a fast-scaling startup.

Work Schedule

This role requires availability during East Coast business hours, specifically 9:00am to 6:00pm ET.

Compensation

Pay is hourly, ranging from $16 to $20 per hour.
