Job description
Job purpose
The role focuses on diagnosing faults, repairing, recommissioning, and maintaining field instrumentation across gas turbines, steam turbines, waste heat boilers, and desalination plant systems and their auxiliary equipment. The aim is to keep operations running efficiently and reduce equipment downtime.
Key responsibilities
- Handle breakdown repairs and scheduled maintenance for power and desalination plant field instrumentation with limited supervision.
- Evaluate each assigned task, identify the required tools and equipment, and choose the right resources to complete the job effectively.
- Use the computerized maintenance system to request spare parts from the warehouse and maintain accurate records of completed maintenance activities.
- Ensure all work is completed in line with safety procedures and plant operating requirements.
- Investigate recurring failures and support root cause analysis to help determine the best corrective solution.
- Guide and train new craftsmen on the job so they can develop the practical skills needed to perform maintenance and repair work.
Qualifications and technical exposure
A higher secondary qualification or diploma is required. The role calls for strong familiarity with maintenance tools and a solid understanding of plant safety. Prior hands-on experience in a power plant or desalination plant is expected, along with exposure to maintenance and calibration of field instrumentation such as pressure, temperature, level, and flow measuring devices.
Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic valve actuation systems, CO2 fire protection systems, and infrared gas detection systems is preferred. The position demands the ability to work under time pressure and technical pressure, where mistakes can lead to delays, equipment damage, or injury. The technician may be assigned to shift duty and can be called out at any time to support breakdown work for the shift operations manager.
Work environment and additional requirements
The job involves working in very hot and dirty conditions, as well as at height on high-level platforms. The technician must also stay current with new technologies and modern control concepts.
Additional technical capability includes the ability to read and understand engineering drawings and manuals, along with practical knowledge or experience in electrical, electronics, computer, hydraulic, and pneumatic devices.
