Job description

About the Organization

Dr. Reddy’s Foundation (DRF) is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1996 with a focus on improving education, healthcare, livelihoods, and climate resilience for low-income communities across India. Over the years, DRF has delivered large-scale employability programs, helped strengthen school systems, improved Primary Health Centres, and supported climate-smart agriculture for farmers. By March 2025, its work had reached 1.9 million people, including children, young people, rural families, and persons with disabilities. The foundation works alongside governments, corporates, and civil society groups to scale impact and create long-term, sustainable change through technology and innovation.

Role Overview

This is a full-time, on-site position based in Prayagraj for an Indian Sign Language (ISL) Interpreter. The selected candidate will bridge communication between Indian Sign Language and spoken or written languages across classrooms, training programs, meetings, counseling interactions, and community events. The role requires accurate, culturally sensitive interpretation and active support for inclusive participation.

What You Will Do

  • Interpret in real time between Indian Sign Language and spoken/written languages during learning sessions, meetings, counseling, and community gatherings.
  • Enable smooth communication between deaf and hard-of-hearing participants, trainers, staff members, and outside stakeholders.
  • Review session material ahead of time to understand context, clarify ideas, and prepare for accurate interpretation.
  • Ensure messages are conveyed faithfully while respecting cultural and accessibility considerations.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism.
  • Record or document sessions when needed.
  • Help create and sustain an inclusive learning environment.
  • Work with program teams to strengthen accessibility practices and communication support.

Required Background

Applicants should have strong command of Indian Sign Language as well as spoken and written languages such as Hindi and English. Experience interpreting or translating between ISL and spoken/written languages in education, training, or community-based settings is important. A good understanding of Deaf culture and accessibility principles is essential, along with strong interpersonal skills for working with learners, trainers, families, and multidisciplinary teams. Certification or formal training in ISL interpreting is strongly preferred. Experience in disability-focused work, NGOs, education, skilling, or community development will be an added advantage. Candidates should also be comfortable managing multiple sessions, protecting confidentiality, adapting to different communication needs, and using basic digital tools for email, video meetings, and presentations.

Additional Notes

The role calls for professionalism, discretion, and the ability to support communication in varied environments while keeping accessibility at the center of the work.
