Job description

Role overview

This position leads India payroll delivery for a defined client cluster in Madurai. The role calls for deep expertise in Indian payroll operations, strong statutory compliance knowledge, and a focus on process improvement, automation, and client satisfaction.

Core responsibilities

  • Oversee payroll delivery for India clients across the assigned region and ensure operations run smoothly.
  • Manage the complete payroll cycle, including full and final settlement, from input collection through final payout.
  • Build and maintain strong country-specific knowledge of Indian payroll practices and ensure that this knowledge is documented in the system of record.
  • Increase automation across India payroll operations and help the team build in-house capability for payroll processing and auditing within six to nine months of launch.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Indian labour regulations, including the new wage code, Provident Fund, ESIC, Professional Tax, LWF, and Income Tax.
  • Handle statutory compliance activities such as PF, ESIC, PT, and LWF filings.
  • Manage quarterly and annual income tax requirements, including Form 24Q and Form 16 preparation and filing.
  • Administer payroll systems, safeguard data accuracy, and resolve employee payroll queries.
  • Reconcile payroll data and work closely with finance to support timely employee payments and statutory remittances.
  • Track legislative updates and adjust payroll processes accordingly.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the India payroll team with a strong emphasis on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex payroll issues raised by employees, internal teams, and client stakeholders.
  • Look for opportunities to improve payroll processes and enhance supporting systems.
  • Share audit documentation with clients and ensure all client audit requirements are met.
  • Support new client implementation activities.

Experience required

The role is suited to professionals with 5 to 10 years of experience in Indian payroll.

Compliance and technical focus

The ideal candidate should be well-versed in Indian payroll legislation, payroll audits, statutory filings, and reconciliation practices, while also contributing to operational automation and team capability building.

This is an onsite role based in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India.
