Role overview

We are hiring a dependable Hygiene Operative for a busy food manufacturing site in Derby. This hands-on position suits someone who values cleanliness, works well in a fast-moving environment, and understands the importance of maintaining safe, hygienic production standards.

The role is active and practical, involving specialist cleaning tasks to keep machinery, equipment, and the wider site in excellent condition so that food products can be produced safely and efficiently.

Location and hours

Bakery, Derby, Ascot Drive, Alvaston, Derby, DE24 8GN

Employment type: Full-time

Working hours: Up to 32.5 hours per week. Please confirm the shift pattern before applying.

Shift pattern: Monday 9:00 am-5:00 pm, Thursday 9:00 am-5:00 pm, Friday 9:00 am-4:30 pm, Saturday 9:00 am-12:00 pm, with a possible Wednesday shift from 7:00 am-3:00 pm.

Pay

Hourly pay: £12.71 per hour.

What you will do

  • Perform planned deep-cleaning of production machinery and equipment.
  • Take machinery apart and rebuild it so it can be cleaned thoroughly and effectively.
  • Wash and sanitise food production tools, equipment, utensils, and work surfaces to hygiene standards.
  • Keep internal spaces clean, including floors, walls, and ceilings.
  • Maintain outdoor areas such as yards and waste or compactor zones in a tidy condition.
  • Handle the cleaning and management of site waste bins.
  • Use specialist cleaning tools such as jet washers and industrial vacuum systems.
  • Follow cleaning schedules and complete required records accurately.
  • Use cleaning chemicals safely in line with COSHH requirements.
  • Work in compliance with HACCP, GMP, food safety, and health and safety procedures.
  • Carry out duties safely in environments that may be warm, wet, dusty, confined, or at height.
  • Wear the correct PPE at all times and keep it in good condition.
  • Escalate hygiene, safety, or maintenance issues without delay.
  • Work closely with production and hygiene colleagues to help operations run smoothly.

What we are looking for

  • Prior experience in food manufacturing or factory cleaning is preferred.
  • Awareness of COSHH, health and safety, and food safety standards is desirable.
  • Experience with industrial cleaning equipment is an advantage.
  • A Food Safety Level 2 qualification is desirable.
  • Ability to handle physical work, including lifting, bending, and working in demanding conditions.
  • Comfort and confidence in a busy industrial setting.
  • Strong focus on detail and high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Good communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • A reliable, flexible, and proactive approach.
