Job description

The opportunity

Stantec is seeking a capable and driven Hydrologist to join its expanding water and environment team in Galway. This position involves delivering hydrological assessments and technical support for infrastructure, water, and development projects, while offering strong scope for professional growth in a multidisciplinary setting.

About the role

You will join a well-established team during a period of continued growth and contribute to a varied portfolio of projects across infrastructure, water, and development. The role offers exposure to technical challenges across engineering, environmental, and planning disciplines, with the chance to develop both specialist and project management capability.

Your work will include taking responsibility for key hydrological studies, supporting high-profile assignments, and building expertise in flood risk, drainage, and environmental reporting within the Irish regulatory environment. Ongoing mentoring, development support, and a clear career path are part of the opportunity.

As part of an international organisation with a strong local focus, you will have access to wider best practices, tools, and professional networks while contributing to sustainable water management and climate resilience solutions in Ireland.

Impact of the role

This position plays an important part in shaping water management outcomes across a range of projects. Your assessments and recommendations will help ensure that development remains sustainable and resilient in the face of climate-related challenges.

Your technical input will guide decisions on flood risk, drainage design, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance, helping clients and project teams secure approvals and deliver better outcomes for communities, infrastructure, and ecosystems.

You will also strengthen collaboration across multidisciplinary teams by bringing hydrology expertise into broader project delivery, improving quality, innovation, and client confidence.

About you

You are an enthusiastic hydrology professional with experience in surface water assessment, data analysis, and environmental reporting in the Irish context. You understand flood risk management, drainage principles, and the relevant legislation and guidance, and you communicate clearly through strong written and verbal reporting.

You work confidently both on your own and within multidisciplinary teams, are adaptable when priorities change, and can manage demanding workloads while consistently producing high-quality technical outputs that support positive environmental outcomes.

Key technical responsibilities

  • Carry out hydrological studies, including flood risk assessments, drainage impact assessments, and surface water investigations.
  • Collect, review, analyse, and interpret hydrological and meteorological datasets.
  • Prepare technical reports and environmental documentation, including inputs for EIARs and regulatory submissions.
  • Support project scoping, scheduling, planning, and programme development activities.

Why join us

  • People-first culture with a friendly, inclusive, and collaborative environment.
  • Recognition for achievement, including placement among Glassdoor’s top 50 companies to work for in 2025 and Corporate Knights’ top 10 most sustainable companies in the world in 2025.
  • Strong learning support, including industry-leading training, paid professional subscriptions, and a progression plan that supports chartership.
  • Supportive team culture that encourages growth and development.
  • Part of an exciting expansion journey across Ireland.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits, including an enhanced pension, annual leave with the option to buy or sell extra days, private medical insurance, group income protection, and life assurance as standard.
