About the Organization

KBEC Group, Inc. is a Washington, DC-based human services organization that supports people with disabilities through direct care, residential services, day programs, and case management. The team is purpose-driven and focused on delivering dependable care with integrity.

Role Overview

The Human Resources Support Specialist will serve as a core support resource for daily HR operations. This position partners with a compact, fast-moving HR team and interacts with employees and managers across multiple programs. Reporting to the HR Director, the role helps keep HR processes organized, accurate, and running efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Keep employee information current and accurate in BambooHR and other HR systems.
  • Organize and maintain personnel files so records remain complete and up to date.
  • Support HR data accuracy across all connected platforms.
  • Coordinate onboarding tasks, including checklists, documentation, and new hire paperwork.
  • Assist with orientation planning, preparation, and scheduling for new employees.
  • Manage offboarding tasks such as separation documents and return of company equipment.
  • Track leave requests and maintain reliable leave records.
  • Monitor important compliance timelines related to FMLA, DC FMLA, DC PFL, and ADA accommodations.
  • Assist with employee return-to-work coordination.
  • Answer employee questions about benefits and direct them to the appropriate resources.
  • Work with the benefits broker and insurance carriers when support is needed.
  • Post open roles and support applicant tracking activities.
  • Coordinate interviews and communicate with candidates throughout the hiring process.
  • Prepare offer letters and handle pre-employment screening steps.
  • Track background checks, certifications, and training completion status.
  • Prepare basic HR reports such as headcount, turnover, and leave usage.
  • Help the organization stay aligned with DC and federal employment law requirements.
  • Respond to employee inquiries promptly, professionally, and with discretion.
  • Upload and organize documents within HR systems.
  • Assist the HR Director with special assignments and administrative work as needed.

Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in HR or administrative support.
  • Experience with HRIS platforms; BambooHR knowledge is preferred.
  • Strong accuracy and the ability to manage several priorities at once.
  • Comfort handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Clear communication skills in writing, speaking, and email.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Preferred background in human services, nonprofit, or government-contracted settings.
  • Working knowledge of DC employment laws, including DC FMLA, DC PFL, and DC Paid Sick and Safe Leave, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Service Contract Act or other federal compliance requirements is preferred.
  • HR certification such as aPHR, PHR, or SHRM-CP, or active progress toward one, is preferred.

Additional Information

This is a full-time, non-exempt, in-office position based in Washington, DC.

Physical requirements: The job is mostly sedentary. Regular activities include sitting, working on a computer, and communicating by phone and email.
