Job description
Overview
This role provides broad HR support for an assigned population, such as a site or region, with a strong focus on employee relations, engagement, retention, operational efficiency, and service to internal customers. The position coordinates, trains, and administers HR programs, procedures, and policies, and supports company-wide initiatives in leadership development, compensation, benefits, compliance, employee relations, training, and health and safety.
Core Duties
- Support a defined employee group by helping anticipate changing workforce needs, strengthening engagement, and advancing HR initiatives.
- Help ensure compliance with relevant state and federal employment laws as well as internal HR policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Assist in executing employee relations efforts that promote a constructive workplace and consistent handling of employee concerns.
- Partner with management to identify root causes of morale or turnover issues and suggest practical improvements.
- Maintain employment records with accuracy and ensure updates are entered promptly.
- Provide benefits orientation and enrollment support for new hires and may also help train new managers.
- Support investigations and resolution of complaints involving harassment, discrimination, or other alleged unlawful workplace conduct.
- Coach first-line managers to strengthen leadership capability and employee management skills.
- Help implement company policies, procedures, programs, and training so they are applied consistently and in line with legal requirements.
- Assist with termination preparation, including obtaining approvals and completing exit documentation.
- May administer unemployment claims and represent the company at unemployment hearings.
- Review trends in turnover, workers’ compensation, grievances, EEOC matters, and other HR metrics to recommend improvements.
- May draft internal employee communications.
- Support a union-free workplace built on positive morale, job satisfaction, and alignment with management goals.
- Identify training gaps that could improve manager capability and employee understanding of benefits.
- Assess future hiring needs and workforce challenges using historical data, labor trends, communication, and local/regional market awareness.
- May lead projects and carry out additional duties as assigned.
- Occasional business travel may be required.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, preferred, along with at least 3 years of HR experience, or an equivalent mix of education and experience. Experience with ADP Workforce Now and Vantage is preferred, as is exposure to multi-state operations (currently NJ, NY, CT, PA, FL, WV, and MA).
Strong knowledge of employment laws is important, including FMLA, FLSA, OSHA, ADA, and wage and hour regulations. The role also calls for excellent communication, organization, and deadline management, along with strong conflict resolution, mediation, interpersonal, time management, adaptability, and change-management skills.
You should be comfortable in a fast-paced environment, able to solve problems quickly, work independently and collaboratively, and maintain a high level of integrity, discretion, confidentiality, and attention to detail. Additional strengths include the ability to juggle multiple priorities, interpret HR policies, act with urgency, and deliver results. Strong PC proficiency, Microsoft Office experience, HR systems knowledge, and advanced Excel skills such as Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP are preferred.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $62,800 to $82,100 per year.
Physical Requirements
This position regularly involves sitting and using hands for handling or feeling objects. It also requires standing, walking, and reaching with the hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work setting is typically moderate.
