Job Description

WSP Qatar is seeking a skilled Health and Safety Officer to ensure the effective implementation of Health & Safety policies and procedures across projects, sites, and office environments, adhering to local and international regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the health, safety, and environmental arrangements for projects, aligning with WSP and client HSEQ Management System requirements to safeguard personnel.
  • Supervise HSE Inspectors in monitoring the on-site implementation of health and safety measures, ensuring compliance with legal and client stipulations.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive health, safety, and environmental training programs for WSP employees, including onboarding and safe work practices.
  • Review and approve contractor health, safety, and environmental plans, risk assessments, and method statements before work commencement, verifying compliance with legal and client standards.
  • Conduct daily morning site visits to confirm that health and safety measures are in place before work begins.
  • Perform weekly joint HSE inspections with HSE Inspectors and contractor representatives, ensuring all corrective and preventive actions are completed.
  • Facilitate HSE meetings involving clients, WSP project staff, and contractors.
  • Initiate and test emergency response plans, ensuring drills are conducted according to the project schedule and performance standards.
  • Ensure HSE Inspectors follow up on contractor incident investigation reports, verifying that corrective actions are identified and closed out to prevent recurrence, and provide technical guidance for accident prevention.
  • Conduct regular site safety reviews.
  • Liaise with enforcement authorities such as PCFC and EHS Checks.
  • Prepare and submit monthly HSE reports in collaboration with contractor personnel to the client.

Qualifications

  • Possess excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in English.
  • Skilled in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Must possess relevant Health and Safety qualifications, with a minimum of NEBOSH IGC.
  • Have a minimum of 7 years of experience managing major construction projects.
