Haxtun Health is looking for a Human Resources Operations Specialist to support the people and processes that keep the organization running. This position focuses on making HR operations efficient and accurate, with work spanning payroll, benefits administration, HR systems, and employee assistance. The role also helps sustain a workplace that is both positive and compliant.

Compensation and schedule

The starting pay range for this exempt, full-time position is $53,809.60 to $69,950.40 per year, based on experience. The shift is daytime.

Job summary

This professional HR role supports Haxtun Health’s workforce and day-to-day operations. The specialist works independently on assigned HR responsibilities and uses sound judgment in areas such as payroll, benefits, HRIS, and related employment processes.

The position also serves as a go-to resource for leaders and employees on payroll, benefits, HR records, and associated HR matters. It partners closely with the HR Generalist and the Chief Administrative Officer to help deliver consistent service, maintain compliance, and support department operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Administer assigned human resources processes with a high level of accuracy and independence.
  • Support payroll-related activities and help ensure timely, correct processing.
  • Manage benefits administration tasks and respond to employee questions.
  • Maintain and work within HR information systems and reporting tools.
  • Provide guidance to leaders and staff on HR data and employment processes.
  • Help uphold HR compliance, policy application, and proper handling of sensitive information.
  • Collaborate with the HR Generalist and CAO on operational and employee-related HR matters.
  • Use judgment to resolve issues and escalate concerns when appropriate.

Required qualifications

  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in human resources.
  • Working knowledge of HR practices, employee relations, employment workflows, and compliance requirements.
  • Practical understanding of payroll administration, benefits administration, HRIS, and reporting.
  • Ability to protect confidential information and handle sensitive matters professionally.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, customer service, and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent organization, analysis, time management, follow-through, and attention to detail.
  • Good judgment and problem-solving ability, including knowing when to escalate issues.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and employment-related rules.
  • Comfort using Microsoft Office, HRIS platforms, payroll systems, reporting tools, and standard business software.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and work independently in a busy environment.

Preferred background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related discipline is preferred; a suitable mix of education and experience may also be considered.
  • Experience with payroll, benefits, HRIS, reporting, reconciliation, and broader HR operations is preferred.
  • Background in healthcare or a critical access hospital setting is preferred.
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or a comparable HR certification is preferred.

Organization overview

Haxtun Health is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital and primary care clinic organization serving northeast Colorado. Its services include long-term care, rehabilitation, and specialty care, and its mission is to promote optimum wellness through compassionate, high-quality care. The organization employs nearly 150 people and operates a recently opened 100,000-square-foot facility that includes family practice, wellness and rehabilitation, and a retail pharmacy.
