Eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- A full UK or EU driving licence is required, held for a minimum of 12 months.

- You will be asked to complete an online driving risk check during the interview process.
- If selected, you will also complete a driving assessment when you start.
- You need the legal right to work in the UK.
What the job involves
- Using a 3.5-tonne van to deliver groceries safely, on time, and in excellent condition to customers’ homes.
- Checking that the van is tidy, organised, safe to drive, and roadworthy, and confirming that delivery items are secured before setting off.
- Providing helpful customer service during deliveries, including answering questions, handling substitutions, and keeping customers informed about any delays.
- Learning enough about products, services, and promotions to make useful recommendations.
- Supporting store operations whenever you are not on deliveries.
What success looks like
- You bring a warm, approachable manner and enjoy helping customers have a great delivery experience.
- You are confident handling a larger vehicle in a range of settings, from crowded residential roads to narrow rural lanes.
- You cope well in a busy, physical, high-energy environment and can use your own initiative to solve problems.
- You work well independently and also contribute positively to a team.
- You are adaptable, productive, and willing to learn a variety of store-based tasks.
- You are comfortable using digital tools and can handle shopping containers weighing up to 15 kg.
Benefits and rewards
- Colleague discount card: 10% off at Sainsbury’s, Argos, Tu, and Habitat after four weeks, rising to 15% off Sainsbury’s purchases every Friday and Saturday.
- Free food and hot drinks in all stores for colleagues.
- Holiday entitlement based on the hours you work, plus maternity and paternity leave.
- Pension matching between 4% and 7.5% of your contributions.
