Job description

Role overview

This opportunity is for a senior security leader based in Germany. The role sits within a globally distributed, technology-driven environment and is focused on creating, expanding, and running a top-tier Security Operations function. You will define the direction for security operations, shape the technical foundation, and drive execution to protect critical infrastructure, internal platforms, and software delivery pipelines.

The position blends advanced hands-on security knowledge with people leadership. It requires close coordination with engineering, architecture, and executive teams to ensure security is built into systems, workflows, and decision-making. The culture is collaborative, open-source minded, distributed across regions, and strongly oriented toward automation, innovation, and resilience. In addition to internal responsibilities, the role also contributes to broader security community efforts and open-source security work.

Key accountabilities

  • Build, lead, hire, and coach a strong SecOps team made up of security engineers and analysts.
  • Create, mature, and maintain security operations standards, response playbooks, and incident handling frameworks across the business.
  • Plan and manage SOC design, covering detection, monitoring, logging, and response capabilities.
  • Drive the investigation, containment, and recovery process for advanced threats and major security incidents.
  • Develop threat modeling methods, run tabletop exercises, and organize incident response drills and simulations.
  • Assess, choose, and roll out tools, platforms, and technologies that strengthen the security environment.
  • Define SecOps metrics and report operational performance and risk exposure to senior leadership.
  • Work with engineering and leadership teams to make security practices part of development and operations routines.
  • Share knowledge externally through community contributions, publications, thought leadership, and threat intelligence exchange.

Requirements

  • Significant leadership experience in Security Operations, including SOC architecture and incident response ownership.
  • Proven history of dealing with sophisticated threats, including highly advanced adversaries or nation-state-level attackers.
  • Strong technical depth in SOC design, security monitoring, logging, network segmentation, and layered defense strategies.
  • Practical knowledge of Linux security and modern infrastructure setups.
  • Experience building and automating incident response workflows and security playbooks.
  • Working familiarity with security frameworks such as NIST CSF and established security standards.
  • Broad understanding of security tooling, threat intelligence platforms, and risk management approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, scale, and develop technical security teams.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present metrics clearly and influence executive stakeholders.
  • Academic background in Computer Science, STEM, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Advanced English skills, both written and spoken.

Benefits

  • Fully remote setup with collaboration across a globally distributed team.
  • Competitive pay with yearly performance reviews and a bonus component.
  • Learning and development support to encourage professional growth.
  • Paid vacation, parental leave, and employee assistance resources.
  • Access to global in-person engineering and security events.
  • Travel assistance for company meetups and team sprints held internationally.
  • Recognition initiatives and rewards tied to performance.
  • Exposure to advanced security challenges in large-scale distributed systems.
