Job description

Role overview

This freelance contract role is for an experienced Head of Project Engineering who can lead the delivery of complex engineering work in the aviation electronics space. The assignment runs for 12 months and is based in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, with a hybrid working setup. The position brings together technical leadership, ownership of delivery, and active hands-on project coordination.

What you will do

  • Steer customer engineering projects so they are completed on schedule, within the approved budget, and against agreed milestones.
  • Serve as the main technical contact for all matters connected to the project.
  • Coordinate engineering teams across both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Track project status, risks, and key performance indicators, and update senior leadership accordingly.
  • Plan resources in line with the project portfolio and forecast needs.
  • Ensure the timely design, configuration, and handover of aircraft seating systems and related components.
  • Oversee technical records, certification outputs, and compliance with aviation requirements.
  • Work closely with program management, sales, suppliers, and customers.
  • Refine and formalize engineering processes, tools, and working methods.
  • Contribute to RFP responses and customer bid efforts.
  • Keep product-level and system-level documentation accurate and up to date.
  • Manage requirements across customer, OEM, and regulatory standards.
  • Lead design validation, internal quality reviews, and certification submissions.
  • Partner with suppliers to make sure components are ready for production.

Required profile

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or a comparable qualification.
  • Background in aircraft seat development, cabin electronics, or a similar aerospace product area.
  • Good understanding of aviation rules and certification procedures.
  • Practical experience in project management; certification experience is an advantage.
  • Prior leadership exposure is preferred.
  • A structured, proactive, and solution-focused way of working.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.

Additional information

This is a 12-month freelance contract based in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The work model is hybrid.
