Job description

About the Company

The client is a venture-funded technology business pursuing an ambitious acquisition-led expansion in the accounting services sector. With two acquisitions already completed and several more planned this year, the company is assembling the operational foundation needed to support rapid growth in a highly fragmented market. The culture is fast-moving, people-oriented, and focused on building a meaningfully differentiated platform.

About the Role

This is an early leadership position with direct exposure to the Founder and a defined route toward future COO responsibilities as the business expands. The Head of Operations will oversee delivery and the operational infrastructure of the accounting practice, with accountability for quality, consistency, and efficiency across newly acquired firms as the company scales.

The role blends accounting operations, people leadership, and influence over technology direction. You will act as the link between the accounting practice and the internal product team, not by choosing software, but by identifying the operational problems that should be solved and feeding that insight into product development. In partnership with the Founder on strategy and the product team on execution, you will help connect day-to-day realities in the field with future product priorities.

This is a high-responsibility, high-trust opportunity for someone who wants to grow with the organization and be rewarded as the company grows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain delivery standards across all accountants in the acquired firms so work is accurate, timely, and aligned with client expectations.
  • Track client communication and turnaround timelines across the portfolio to ensure service quality remains strong.
  • Review CAS and tax work at the engagement level and step in to resolve quality gaps when needed.
  • Lead the people side of integration by guiding staff through changes in systems, processes, and operating models with clarity and support.
  • Create and manage onboarding and training programs that help acquired team members get productive quickly and perform consistently.
  • Oversee hiring and development of replacement or backfill talent as the portfolio continues to expand.
  • Improve operating processes by removing inefficiencies, standardizing workflows, and sustaining performance through multiple acquisitions happening at once.
  • Serve as the main source of operational insight for the product team by identifying the underlying business problems that technology should solve.
  • Own the feedback loop between the accounting organization and the product team so field insights are translated into product direction and adopted in practice.

Requirements

  • Extensive background in accounting services delivery, preferably in a client-facing or operational leadership role.
  • CPA credentials are preferred but not mandatory.
  • Ability to evaluate the quality of CAS and tax work at the engagement level.
  • Experience leading accounting teams, including hiring and building training programs.
  • Comfort working in a technology-driven environment and contributing meaningfully to workflow and tooling discussions with product teams.
  • Exposure to M&A, firm integration, or multi-entity operations is a significant advantage.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage several complex workstreams across multiple firms.
  • Adaptable, resilient, and effective in a fast-paced startup setting; a collaborative leader who builds trust at every level.
  • Motivated by meaningful change that improves how the work gets done.

Benefits

  • Year-one cash compensation of $250,000 to $350,000, plus equity in a venture-backed accounting firm roll-up.
  • A comprehensive benefits package that is open to negotiation.
  • Fully remote working arrangement.
