Job description
About the Company
Bailey Nelson is a fast-expanding Australian eyewear business that has been posting double-digit comparable growth and opening roughly 20 new stores each year across Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. The company is working to become a smarter choice for customers in eyewear and has ambitious plans for what comes next.
The team is described as close-knit, grounded, and focused on continuous improvement. Strong internal collaboration and customer interactions are central to the company’s identity and success.
About the Role
This is a key leadership opportunity for an experienced growth professional to join at an important point in the company’s expansion. The role will be responsible for defining how Bailey Nelson grows, creating the growth engine that supports the next phase of the business, and partnering closely with leadership to unlock the value of effective marketing.
Reporting to the co-founder, the Head of Growth will lead growth strategy, manage the marketing budget, guide a team of marketers, and establish the measurement systems needed to invest with confidence. The ideal candidate is both strategically strong and commercially astute, with the ability to set direction, develop people, and understand the drivers behind performance.
Key Responsibilities
The role covers end-to-end ownership of growth planning, team leadership, channel optimisation, experimentation, reporting, and store launch support.
- Set and own the overall marketing growth strategy and budget across markets, including channel allocation, target setting, and building a framework that treats marketing as an investment with measurable return.
- Lead, coach, and develop the growth marketing team by setting priorities, strengthening capability, ensuring high-quality execution, and delivering work on time.
- Represent growth at leadership level and contribute to company-wide decision-making.
- Build and improve the marketing mix across paid digital, offline, CRM, referrals, and new channels, with a strong focus on measurement and learning.
- Create a test-and-learn environment by generating ideas, defining success measures, prioritising tests by likely business impact, overseeing delivery, and sharing outcomes clearly.
- Own website performance as an important conversion and brand driver, working with product and tech teams to improve key metrics.
- Monitor and report on performance across new, existing, and lapsed customers, turning data into insights and actions for the team and leadership.
- Plan and execute pre-opening marketing for new stores to build local awareness and generate customer traffic from day one.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate should bring a strong background in growth, marketing, consulting, or technology, along with the ability to lead teams and work effectively across functions. Experience in retail, CRM, or digital marketing would be advantageous.
You should be highly analytical, commercially focused, organised, and able to manage projects from strategy through to delivery. The role also calls for strong financial modelling capability, excellent attention to detail, and a decision-making style grounded in business impact.
Who You Are
You are a strategic thinker who can see the big picture and bring others with you. You are a capable people leader who develops teams through clarity, accountability, and support. You are curious, experimental, and comfortable using data to validate ideas and learn from what does not work.
You communicate complex performance information in a simple, compelling way, take responsibility for outcomes, and build strong relationships across the business.
Work Location
This is an onsite position based in the Woolloomooloo office in Sydney, with a minimum requirement of four days per week in the office.
Additional Information
The company is expanding across three markets and opening around 20 stores annually. The role is focused on building scalable growth capabilities for the next phase of that expansion.
