Job description
Role overview
This opportunity is being shared on behalf of a partner organization that handles applications and the remainder of the hiring process. The company is seeking a Head of Engineering in Ireland to guide the technical vision of a rapidly growing product business.
In this position, you will shape engineering strategy, strengthen team performance, and help define a culture built on speed, accountability, and continuous improvement. Although this is a senior leadership role, it remains highly hands-on: you will contribute to development work, influence architecture decisions, and help solve complex technical problems alongside the team. You will work closely with senior leaders to make sure engineering priorities support product goals, customer needs, security, privacy, and scalability.
The role is designed for someone who enjoys operating in fast-moving environments, has a strong product mindset, and wants to have a meaningful impact on the platform, the engineering organization, and the company's long-term growth.
Key accountabilities
- Set the technical direction for the engineering function and raise delivery standards across the organization.
- Stay actively involved in software development, especially using TypeScript, Go, and similar technologies, while also contributing to architecture and major system design choices.
- Own architectural trade-offs and serve as the key decision-maker for scalability, resilience, and technical robustness.
- Recruit, coach, and develop engineering talent, supporting individual growth into senior technical or leadership roles.
- Design and improve engineering processes, standards, and best practices throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
- Ensure products are delivered securely, reliably, and at scale while meeting SLA, privacy, and compliance expectations.
- Work with People teams to shape hiring plans, define team structure, and attract strong engineering candidates.
- Build a culture centered on ownership, speed, accountability, and ongoing improvement.
- Collaborate with executive stakeholders such as the CEO, Product, CISO, and Customer Success to align delivery with business and customer priorities.
- Oversee application security, infrastructure reliability, and readiness for compliance requirements with the appropriate stakeholders.
- Spot opportunities to introduce automation, innovation, and AI-assisted engineering practices.
- Manage engineering spend, tooling decisions, and third-party vendors to maintain operational efficiency.
- Join important customer and technical conversations when needed to support product strategy and solution design.
- Lead the adoption of AI within engineering to improve development speed and automation.
Experience and requirements
- At least 8 years in software engineering, including several years in technical leadership or engineering management.
- Strong practical experience across full-stack systems, ideally with TypeScript, Go, or similar modern languages.
- Proven success building and scaling end-to-end software products, preferably in SaaS or platform environments.
- Solid knowledge of system architecture, REST, GraphQL, gRPC, and distributed systems.
- Background leading engineering teams in fast-paced, product-led environments with a strong focus on execution.
- Ability to remain technically hands-on while managing and mentoring others.
- Experience hiring, organizing, and growing high-performing engineering teams.
- Good understanding of security, privacy, compliance, and operational excellence in production systems.
- Strong product and customer orientation, with experience working directly with stakeholders or clients.
- Practical, solution-oriented problem-solving skills.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, scaling challenges, and modern DevOps practices.
- Excellent English communication skills with the ability to bridge technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfort working with remote, distributed teams and in changing startup environments.
- Exposure to AI-enabled engineering workflows, automation, or developer productivity tools is considered an advantage.
Benefits and perks
- Fully remote work with flexibility across locations.
- Competitive pay package.
- Choice of preferred work hardware.
- Discretionary paid time off for rest and personal balance.
- Healthcare benefits available depending on location.
- Chance to work on technically ambitious, high-impact challenges.
- Strong emphasis on engineering autonomy, ownership, and innovation.
- Team retreats and international offsites.
- Supportive performance-driven culture with room for learning and growth.
- Opportunity to shape both the engineering function and the product from an early, foundational stage.
Additional information
The hiring process uses an AI-supported matching approach to assess applications quickly, consistently, and fairly against the core requirements of the role. Applications are reviewed and shortlisted before being passed to the employer, and the company’s internal team manages the remaining stages such as interviews and assessments.
By applying, you acknowledge that your personal data may be processed to evaluate your candidacy and shared with the hiring employer under applicable data protection laws, including GDPR. You may exercise your rights to access, correct, delete, or object to processing at any time.
AI tools may also support parts of the recruitment workflow, including resume review, application analysis, and screening for inconsistencies or verification signals. These tools assist recruiters but do not replace human judgment, and final hiring decisions are made by people.
Who should apply
This role is suited to senior engineering leaders who are based in Ireland, can work remotely, and are comfortable leading in a fast-moving product environment. Candidates should bring both strategic leadership and hands-on technical depth, along with a strong focus on building teams, improving systems, and delivering customer-centered products.
