Role overview
Knauf Metal is seeking an experienced engineering leader to head its R&D Engineering Services function in Pinkenba, Queensland. This role is centered on guiding technical solutions, systems development, engineering support, architectural specification, certification activities, and the operation of the NATA-accredited fire and structures testing laboratory.
The position carries responsibility for the strategic direction, team leadership, and performance of the Engineering Services group. The aim is to advance wall and ceiling system development, deliver technically strong market solutions, deepen relationships across the industry, and keep the business at the forefront of technical capability and innovation while supporting commercial goals.
Key responsibilities
- Direct and manage the Engineering Services function across Australia.
- Oversee technical services, architectural specifications, engineering certification work, and R&D initiatives.
- Lead the NATA-accredited fire and structures test laboratory, including compliance, capability growth, and governance.
- Represent the company on technical, regulatory, and industry committees where required.
- Manage technical risk, engineering standards, and development priorities in line with business strategy.
About you
- You should be based in Pinkenba or nearby.
- You need solid knowledge of Australian building systems, applicable codes, standards, testing frameworks, and certification pathways.
- You should understand NATA accreditation requirements, laboratory governance, and technical compliance principles.
- You should be familiar with product and systems development, technical documentation, and how to engage effectively with industry stakeholders.
- You must have a proven history of leading and developing high-performing teams.
- You must be able to work onsite at Pinkenba full time; this is not a work-from-home position.
Requirements
- Full, unrestricted Australian working rights are essential; visa sponsorship is not available.
- A valid police check is required.
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant engineering discipline is required, and postgraduate qualifications may be beneficial.
- Professional engineering accreditation recognised in Australia is required, with Chartered status preferred or the capability and experience to achieve it.
- Completion of a pre-employment medical is required.
