Job description
About the company
Day1Data is an expanding analytics consultancy that supports marketing and finance teams in understanding incremental impact and making stronger commercial choices. The business works across marketing mix modelling, incrementality measurement, forecasting, attribution, data infrastructure and AI-assisted analytics to uncover the real drivers of growth. Its client list includes Healf, PerfectTed, Global Media, Twilio, WorldRemit and Booksy.
Role summary
This senior leadership position is based in London with a hybrid working setup from the Holborn office. The role reports directly to the Founder and carries end-to-end responsibility for the direction, quality and delivery of analytics work across Day1Data. You will lead an initial team of three data scientists, with the opportunity to expand the team over time. The position combines leadership with hands-on technical contribution, particularly in marketing science, MMM, causal inference, incrementality testing, attribution and wider data science projects. The ideal candidate will be commercially aware, highly technical, organised, self-directed and keen to own an entire analytics function in a scaling business.
Analytics leadership and strategy
- Set and own the analytics roadmap, covering technical direction, service development, delivery standards and long-term team planning.
- Plan how the function should grow, including hiring needs, timing of recruitment and allocation of work across the team.
- Contribute to company strategy by spotting new opportunities, refining working methods and helping shape future offerings.
Team management and development
- Lead a team of three data scientists and support their workload, development, technical progression and daily delivery.
- Introduce the structure, processes and standards needed for efficient and consistent delivery.
- Foster a high-performance environment that balances quality, pace, ownership and commercial results.
- Assist with future hiring, including defining roles, interviewing candidates and onboarding new joiners.
- Stay hands-on with technical delivery across marketing science, MMM, incrementality testing, attribution, forecasting, causal inference and broader data science work.
- Work on a diverse mix of client challenges, ranging from marketing effectiveness and customer analytics to tailored data science assignments.
- Review code, models, assumptions, outputs and recommendations to make sure the work is robust, clear and useful.
Client strategy and pitching
- Support proposals and pitches by helping shape the analytical approach, explaining methods and building trust with senior stakeholders.
- Ensure analytical work is connected to measurable commercial outcomes, not only technical accuracy.
Process, operations and AI adoption
- Improve the analytics operating model, including delivery workflows, quality assurance, documentation, prioritisation and resourcing.
- Identify and implement AI tools that can enhance productivity, automation, speed, quality and scalability across the team.
What you will need
- Substantial experience in analytics, data science or marketing science, ideally at a senior or leadership level.
- Strong technical knowledge of marketing science methods such as MMM, incrementality testing, causal inference, attribution and experimentation.
- Broad data science capability with the flexibility to handle client problems beyond measurement-focused marketing work.
- Practical experience using Python and SQL.
- Experience assessing technical work, including models, code, assumptions, outputs and recommendations.
- Background in managing or mentoring analysts or data scientists.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex analytical topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong organisational ability, including prioritisation, resource allocation and process design.
- A strong sense of ownership, independence and accountability.
- Genuine interest in AI tools and their value for analytics delivery, productivity and quality.
What is offered
- Salary of up to £100,000.
- Equity in the business.
- Complete ownership of the analytics function, including roadmap, strategy, planning, hiring and delivery standards.
- Opportunity to lead and grow a high-performing technical team.
- Hands-on involvement with leading brands across marketing science, data science and analytics.
- The chance to help shape the future of Day1Data during its growth phase.
