Job description

About the Role

Canny Creative is a busy design agency seeking a Graphic Designer to become part of its expanding team. This position focuses on branding and website design, with close collaboration across developers, project managers, and clients to produce polished, high-impact creative work.

About the Company

Headquartered in Blyth, just outside Newcastle, Canny Creative develops brands and websites for clients across the world, including Canada, Japan, and the UK. As the business grows quickly, it is looking for an experienced designer who can help take the quality of its output even further.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own branding and website design projects from the initial idea through to final delivery.
  • Clearly present and defend design choices to both clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Carry out research into clients and markets to shape creative direction.
  • Work alongside developers to make sure website designs are implemented smoothly.
  • Maintain consistency with brand identity standards across all assignments.
  • Keep track of new developments in design trends and tools.
  • Support and mentor junior designers by offering helpful, constructive feedback.
  • Partner with the project management team to estimate timelines and plan design capacity.
  • Prepare design presentations and supporting documentation for client meetings.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Advanced ability with Adobe Creative Cloud, especially Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Figma.
  • Strong command of core design principles, including typography and color theory.
  • Working knowledge of UX/UI design, accessibility standards, and the five elements of UX design.
  • Capability to work autonomously, manage time well, and handle several projects at once.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with confidence in client-facing design discussions.
  • Understanding of brand strategy and how visual design supports marketing objectives.
  • Experience with competitor analysis, persona building, and aligning design with brand messaging.
  • Solid understanding of print setup, production methods, and current typography trends.
  • Familiarity with AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Google Gemini.
  • Helpful but not essential: WordPress, HTML, CSS, motion design in After Effects, AI design tools, quick sketching and concepting, liaising with printers for quotes, and user research methods.

Perks and Benefits

  • Salary of £28,000 to £32,000, depending on experience.
  • Four-day working week from Monday to Thursday.
  • 25 days of holiday, including Bank Holidays and Christmas.
  • Hybrid working arrangements.
  • Opportunities for regular travel.
  • Relaxed office environment with casual dress.
  • Team socials and events.
  • Free on-site parking.
  • Office location within walking distance of the harbour, park, and beach.
  • Company pension.
  • Life insurance.
