Job description
Role overview
This position calls for solid hands-on expertise in GIS and AIS switchgear. The selected candidate will support engineering, commissioning, and maintenance work for high-voltage switchgear, including testing and commissioning activities. The role also involves managing GIS equipment, producing technical documentation and site reports, and making sure work is completed in line with GE Vernova procedures, EHS standards, and quality expectations.
Key responsibilities
- Apply site safety practices rigorously, including lockout/tagout procedures in line with GE and customer safety rules.
- Follow GE Vernova EHS requirements and contribute to continuous improvement in site safety, quality, and productivity.
- Carry out engineering and commissioning tasks for 230 kV and 380 kV substations.
- Work with GIS and AIS switchgear as well as electrical panels.
- Diagnose faults and carry out troubleshooting and repair work on live electrical substations.
- Perform corrective maintenance and planned preventive maintenance activities.
- Read electrical and mechanical drawings to identify and solve equipment issues.
- Schedule and complete preventive maintenance for substations.
- Maintain back-office records, test documentation, and customer site paperwork.
- Coordinate with OEM factories when repair issues remain unresolved or require non-conformance follow-up.
- Support project installation and pre-arrangement activities with technical assistance when needed.
- Work independently as part of a team or take the lead on site by assigning responsibilities to team members.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related discipline; a diploma in a relevant field from an accredited university or college is also acceptable.
- At least 4 years of experience in high-voltage switchgear.
- Ability to perform engineering, commissioning, and site service work for GIS substations, including maintenance.
- Strong command of English.
- Willingness to work across multiple remote sites within the Kingdom.
- Ability to manage site requirements and customer expectations effectively under pressure.
Preferred traits
- Comfortable using MS 365, Project tools, and similar software.
- Strong interpersonal ability, quick learning mindset, and leadership qualities.
- Professional conduct with excellent communication skills.
- Arabic language skills are an advantage.
