Overview
Mindrift is seeking experienced bot engineers to contribute to the Tendem project and create conversational bots and platform integrations for messaging channels such as WhatsApp, Telegram, and Discord. This is a freelance, part-time remote opportunity in Mindrift’s hybrid AI and human workflow, where Tendem Agents take care of repetitive work and you focus on bot architecture, conversation design, and quality assurance so the final product is dependable and ready for real users.
The platform brings together domain specialists and AI initiatives from leading technology companies. Its purpose is to expand what generative AI can do by combining it with practical expertise from around the world.
Role Scope
As a Bot Developer on this project, you will design, develop, and improve messaging bots for use cases such as customer support, booking appointments, taking orders, delivering content, moderation, and sending automated alerts.
Key Responsibilities
- Create bots for WhatsApp Business API / Cloud API, Telegram Bot API, Discord API, and similar messaging platforms.
- Plan and build conversational journeys, including dialog state management and fallback behavior.
- Connect bots with LLM services such as OpenAI or Anthropic when natural language responses are needed.
- Integrate bots with backend systems, databases, CRMs, and external APIs for bookings, payments, and content.
- Work with webhooks, messaging limits, and platform-specific formats such as interactive messages, buttons, media, and templates.
- Review AI-generated bot code, correct issues, and improve reliability and error handling.
- Set up logging, monitoring, and recovery mechanisms to keep bots running smoothly in production.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in backend work, integrations, automation, or bot development.
- Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience building bots for major messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Slack, or similar.
- Strong programming ability in Python or Node.js for backend bot logic.
- Practical knowledge of REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, and asynchronous request handling.
- Experience using relational or NoSQL databases to store conversation state and user data.
- Good understanding of platform limitations, approval flows, and template-based messaging, including WhatsApp template messages.
- Experience with hosting and deployment tools such as Docker, serverless environments, VPS, or PaaS.
- Portfolio or examples of bots you have built is required.
- English proficiency at upper-intermediate level (B2) or higher is required.
- Strong attention to detail, a self-directed working style, and the ability to build complete bots independently are essential.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline is an advantage.
Working Hours
The expected effort is around 10 to 20 hours per week during active project phases. This is only an estimate and may vary depending on the project workload.
Compensation
Contributors may earn up to the equivalent of $60 per hour on this project, depending on expertise and contribution pace. Compensation can differ between projects based on scope, complexity, and the level of specialization required.
