Job description

Position overview

This role sits within the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Business Operations Department under Fleet Readiness (N92), Commander Navy Region Center Singapore, NSA Singapore. The job exists to prepare, serve, and sell a limited range of food and beverage items at MWR-operated food outlets in the club system.

What you will do

  • Take customer orders and prepare simple menu items such as sandwiches, pizzas, and salads.
  • Wash, trim, slice, chop, and dice vegetables, meats, cheeses, and other ingredients used in sandwiches, salads, and pizzas.
  • Measure and portion ingredients according to standard recipes to support kitchen staff.
  • Keep beverage coolers filled and organized.
  • Serve alcoholic drinks when required.
  • Prepare coffee in large urns based on the required number of servings, and use espresso machines and blenders to make coffee and frozen beverages.
  • Arrange food counters, steam tables, dining tables, and service stations with hot and cold items such as meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, bread, butter, and drinks.
  • Clear away used dishes, trays, and utensils.
  • Clean tables and counters, sweep and mop floors, and empty and sanitize waste containers; this may involve moving heavy trash bins.
  • Clean kitchen equipment and storage areas including worktables, sinks, and refrigerators.
  • Separate food waste and trash from dishware, glassware, serving containers, and utensils in the bar area.
  • Receive deliveries, store supplies correctly after arrival, and may unload food from trucks.
  • Support food and beverage service for special events, including preparing and serving food.
  • Follow all safety, sanitation, policy, and procedure requirements.
  • Record sales in a cash register or POS terminal, collect payments, make change, maintain the change fund, and balance sales records.
  • Respond to customer questions about products and pricing.
  • Check guest receipts to confirm the recorded information is accurate.
  • Prepare the Daily Activity Report (DAR) at the end of the shift.

Requirements and qualifications

  • Must successfully pass all background screening, including National Agency Check with Written Inquiries (NACI/T1).
  • Should expect weekend and holiday work, rotating shifts, and hours outside the standard duty schedule.
  • May be called back to work and may be required to work overtime.
  • Must complete Cash Handling Training, Responsible Alcohol Training, and Sanitation Training within 3 days of hire.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to perform the role with no more than normal supervision.
  • Experience or familiarity with cleanliness, safety, and sanitation practices in food preparation areas.
  • Ability to understand instructions and specifications.
  • Capability to use and maintain equipment such as blenders and mixers.
  • Good dexterity and safe handling techniques for food preparation.
  • Knowledge of sanitation practices to prevent spoilage, contamination, and waste.
  • Knowledge of basic food handling methods.
  • Knowledge of safety practices related to food preparation and kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to perform multi-step tasks and varied procedures.
  • Ability to organize work in a logical sequence so tasks are completed quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to work accurately despite interruptions and distractions.
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to portion, weigh, and measure food accurately.
  • Ability to use appliances, grills, stoves, ovens, and common kitchen tools.
  • Ability to operate a cash register or POS system.
  • Ability to handle basic math for receiving payment, making change, and preparing cash reports.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in speaking and writing.

Additional information

  • Selection may remain tentative until employment reference checks are completed satisfactorily.
  • The selected candidate may need to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Direct deposit / Electronic Fund Transfer participation is required.
  • Non-US citizens or non-US bona fide resident aliens without a Green Card who are SOFA-sponsored must provide a police record check showing at least seven years of history from the embassy or consulate of their country of citizenship once a formal offer is issued.
