Job description
About the role
As a Food Service Assistant, you will be part of the catering team at one of the Partnership’s hotel properties, helping to keep the food and beverage operation running smoothly and profitably. You will work with hospitality professionals to provide a memorable experience for guests at Bala Lake Hotel, Activity Base and Spa, located in Snowdonia National Park with views across the mountains and a short walk from Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake). The hotel combines adventure and relaxation, with activities such as Segways, crossbows, archery, field archery, the High Ropes Aerial Challenge, Gladiator Challenge and Leap of Faith, the Low Ropes Course with Zip Wire, Laser Clay, Monster Trucks, Bala’s escape rooms and Cyber Tag, along with a spa overlooking the lake toward the Arenig mountain.
Guests at this hotel are the Partners, their friends and their families, so the service style is shaped by the business’s co-owned culture. You will work as part of a passionate team that aims to create the best possible guest experience.
What you will do
- Step into different parts of the hotel when support is needed and help keep daily operations running efficiently.
- Work closely with colleagues and contribute wherever a helping hand is needed.
- Follow health and safety standards carefully to maintain a safe environment for both guests and team members.
- Use strong organisation to manage and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Welcome guests warmly and engage with them in a friendly, service-focused way while sharing enthusiasm for food and drink.
Skills and experience needed
You should be comfortable working in a busy, fast-moving setting and be able to stay calm when challenges arise. Strong customer service, organisation and quick problem-solving skills are important for this role. Previous experience in hospitality is helpful, though not essential.
About the Partnership
The Partnership is the UK’s largest employee-owned business and is home to John Lewis and Waitrose. Partners share responsibility for the business and its success, working together through both good and difficult times. The organisation places a strong focus on inclusion, respect and helping people thrive, so everyone can contribute and feel a sense of belonging.
Important information
Some roles require pre-employment checks, which may include DBS screening for successful candidates. Where this applies, you will be told during recruitment and should complete any requested documents promptly to avoid delays. DBS checks, if needed, are completed by an independent registered third party, and financial probity checks may also be required for certain positions.
Vacancies may close early if a large number of applications are received, so early application is encouraged. If you need a reasonable adjustment because of a disability and may need more time to complete your application, you should contact the team as soon as possible.
The organisation supports flexible working and values work-life balance. Depending on the role, this may include flexible or compressed hours, job sharing or shorter-hour contracts. These options can be discussed with the hiring manager during the interview process.
