Job description

Overview

Amentum is hiring a Fire Alarm Dispatcher to support a specialized U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role is centered on emergency communications and alarm monitoring, helping ensure fire and emergency incidents are handled quickly and accurately.

What you will do

  • Keep watch over fire alarm systems and react immediately when signals come in, following established emergency procedures.
  • Answer emergency calls, assess the situation, and send the right fire department personnel to the incident.
  • Use radios, telephones, and computer-aided dispatch systems to manage and coordinate response efforts.
  • Stay in close contact with responding teams and provide live updates as emergencies develop.
  • Record all calls, dispatched resources, and response actions accurately for logs and reporting.
  • Check alarm system performance, identify faults quickly, and escalate issues for prompt repair.
  • Support tracking of alarms and scheduled maintenance to help reduce downtime and avoid system problems.
  • Work closely with the Fire and Emergency Services team to keep communication and coordination smooth during incidents.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
  • Certifications in Telecommunicator I, Telecommunicator II, and Hazmat Awareness are required under relevant standards; new hires must earn all required certifications within 12 months of joining to work independently.
  • At least 1 to 3 years of experience in emergency dispatch, fire communications, or a similar field.
  • Ability to stay composed in high-pressure situations and dispatch responders accurately and without delay.
  • Comfort using communications tools such as radios and CAD systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping ability for dispatch logs and alarm documentation.
  • Clear verbal communication skills for relaying concise information to responders and team members.
  • Must be able to pass contract medical checks and remain medically compliant throughout deployment.
  • Must be able to obtain and keep facility credentials and authorization.

Preferred profile

  • Experience working in a remote OCONUS setting with a multinational workforce.
  • A valid country driver’s license.
  • The required country visa, where applicable under the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
  • Background in fire dispatch operations for a government, military, or emergency response organization.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Navy or Department of Defense fire alarm and emergency dispatch procedures.
  • Advanced training or certification in dispatching, communications systems, or emergency response.
