Overview
A manufacturing business in Longford is looking to hire a Financial Accountant to strengthen its finance function. The role is centered on accurate reporting, sound financial controls, and commercial support to help the wider organisation make informed decisions.
You will be involved in budgeting, audit support, cash and banking management, and financial analysis, while also partnering with operational teams on capital projects, stock matters, grant-related work, and reporting needs.
Role purpose
This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring reporting and compliance are handled properly, and supporting key business decisions through analysis, planning, and control activities.
It also includes working with different departments on capital investment, inventory monitoring, grant submissions, and broader operational finance support.
Key responsibilities
- Produce monthly management accounts, including profit and loss statements and balance sheet reports.
- Carry out balance sheet reconciliations and maintain the accuracy of accounting records.
- Review financial and operational results through variance analysis.
- Handle accounts receivable processes, including cash posting and customer statements.
- Oversee debt management procedures and pursue overdue payments.
- Track and manage cash flow for the business.
- Maintain banking discounting controls and complete related reconciliations.
- Deal with banks on audits, finance facilities, and supporting documentation.
- Assist with leasing proposals and funding applications.
- Support preparation and tracking of sales and capital expenditure budgets.
- Review new capital spending requests and assess their impact.
- Keep fixed asset registers and CAPEX tracking records up to date.
- Take part in stock review discussions focused on slow-moving inventory and stock levels.
- Perform analysis of material usage and related variances.
- Prepare and file VAT returns.
- Coordinate R&D tax claims and IDA grant submissions, including Green, Lean, and Training grants.
- Help ensure internal controls and audit compliance across UK and Ireland operations.
Requirements
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant with ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or an equivalent designation.
- Practical experience in financial accounting and month-end reporting.
- Background in budgeting, reconciliations, and financial analysis.
- Working knowledge of VAT, audit preparation, and compliance requirements.
- Advanced Excel capability.
- Strong focus on accuracy and detail.
- Well-organised with the ability to manage priorities effectively.
- Comfortable communicating across multiple departments.
- Experience in manufacturing or other operational finance settings would be an advantage.
