Role overview
Clean Harbors is hiring a Field Services Technician I in Stockton, California to support field operations focused on hazardous waste cleanup, site remediation, equipment decontamination, and the safe handling of hazardous materials. The role is part of a safety-first team working across environmental, energy, and industrial service projects.
The company operates across the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, delivering environmental and industrial services where industry and environmental protection intersect. This position is suited to someone who can work in demanding field conditions and follow strict safety and compliance standards.
What you will do
- Put health and safety first by following procedures and consistently working in a safe manner.
- Carry out physically demanding tasks, including lifting and moving heavy items.
- Use light and heavy equipment, hand tools, and powered industrial tools, including vibration-producing tools.
- Wear and properly use required PPE such as respirators, and protection for the skin, face, hands, and feet.
- Work indoors and outdoors in a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions.
- Operate in environments that may involve exposure to hazardous, toxic, or corrosive chemical and physical agents.
- Work around high noise levels, confined spaces, and low-clearance areas.
- Perform tasks at heights, including ladders and scaffolding.
- Support field sampling work and meter calibration.
- Climb in and out of ladders, scaffolding, trucks, tanks, and other containers.
- Work for extended shifts lasting more than 8 hours.
- Attend required compliance and safety update meetings.
- Inspect drums for container integrity and regulatory compliance.
- Load and unload hazardous and non-hazardous waste safely.
- Collect waste samples and complete profiling as needed.
- Follow local, state/provincial, and federal regulations.
- Drive vehicles safely in line with U.S. DOT and other applicable requirements.
- Follow company operating guidelines and environmental health and safety procedures.
- Take on additional duties as assigned.
- Be available for emergency response on a rotating on-call schedule every other week, depending on the assignment.
- Support site remediation, equipment decontamination, and hazardous materials handling when required by the position.
Requirements
- Reliable transportation is required.
- Must be able to carry out the physical duties listed for the role.
- This role includes emergency response, so agreeing to an on-call schedule is a continuing condition of employment.
- Weekend and holiday work may occasionally be necessary.
- Emergency response assignments may last beyond 8 hours and can extend to 12 to 24 hours.
- Must be able to complete the physical requirements of the position.
- Must pass a background check, drug screening, and physical examination where applicable.
- For respirator-required roles, facial hair must meet OSHA respiratory protection standards.
- A valid driver’s license is preferred.
- Prior hands-on labor experience is preferred.
