Job description
Role overview
This is a full-time, in-office field position based in Lilongwe. The Field Officer will support farmers, agro-dealers, and partner organizations in getting the best results from the company’s soil testing service, inoculants, and post-harvest storage products. The role centers on hands-on engagement in the field, farmer education, product adoption, and feedback collection.
What you will do
- Visit farms and field sites to demonstrate products and support their correct use.
- Conduct training sessions and practical demonstrations on improved agronomic practices for legumes.
- Promote proper use of hermetic storage solutions and related post-harvest technologies.
- Gather field-level data and track how products are performing in real-world conditions.
- Prepare routine updates on farmer uptake, operational challenges, and market developments.
- Work closely with sales and technical colleagues to coordinate field activities.
- Plan and support field days, community outreach, and farmer engagement events.
- Share observations and recommendations to help improve products and services.
- Travel regularly within the assigned territory and maintain close contact with farmers, cooperatives, NGOs, and government extension staff.
Qualifications and experience
- Practical agricultural field experience, especially with legume crops such as soybean, groundnut, and beans, plus familiarity with seeds, inoculants, and post-harvest handling.
- Understanding of farmer training and extension methods, including demo plots, field days, and group facilitation.
- Ability to collect data, maintain records, and monitor activities using both paper forms and digital tools.
- Good communication and people skills for working with farmers and local stakeholders.
- Self-driven, dependable, and able to work with limited supervision in the field while staying aligned with the wider team.
- Bachelor’s degree or at least a diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agribusiness, Extension, Soil Science, Crop Science, or a similar discipline.
- At least 1 year of experience in a field officer, extension, or comparable agriculture role is preferred.
- Fluency in English and local languages, with willingness to travel frequently around Lilongwe and nearby areas.
- Holding a valid motorbike licence is an added benefit.
