Stage 3 Separation develops high-quality solids control equipment for mud systems that help manage solids efficiently, lower customer costs, and support limited- or zero-discharge solutions where needed. As the Field Leader for Solids Control in Canada, you will serve as the primary on-site expert for solids control field operations. You will lead by example to keep operations safe, efficient, and productive for both the company and the operator. This position involves supervising and coaching Solids Control Technicians and contractors while ensuring strict compliance with HSE requirements, company procedures, and site rules.
What you will do
- Guide and develop field teams through direct supervision, training, and performance oversight.
- Manage daily operations across day and night shifts with a strong focus on safety, output, and equipment dependability.
- Work closely with Field Leaders, Technicians, and Trainees to ensure smooth service delivery.
- Take responsibility for all solids control activity in the assigned job site backyard and keep the work area fully prepared for operations.
- Report to the Area Manager and share important operational updates and leadership input.
- Oversee crews operating and maintaining solids control equipment such as shaker tanks, centrifuges, drying systems, and pumps.
- Support or perform routine maintenance and basic electrical work when needed.
- Review and coach standard procedures for moving cuttings from pits to trailers using heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
- Conduct site audits and review safety and operational documentation such as PJRA/JSA, inspection reports, observation records, and checklists.
- Maintain PPE/FR compliance for staff and set the standard for all safety practices.
- Coordinate equipment pick-up and delivery when needed, including making grocery runs for technicians where required.
- Keep the site and employee housing clean, organized, and professional.
- Provide weekly updates to Area Managers summarizing team activity and any concerns.
Role requirements
- Be available for a rotation of 14 days on/7 days off or 20 days on/11 days off, depending on the basin.
- Work 12-hour shifts, including overtime when required.
- Lead teams of up to 10 technicians across day, night, and possibly swing shifts.
- Travel domestically to remote locations in a company vehicle as needed.
- Be assigned to one site or multiple sites depending on business requirements.
- At times, sit a tower at an active job site.
- Perform standard rig-up and rig-down duties while mentoring technicians at all levels.
- Understand environmental processes and Environmental Services work, including construction and utilities.
- Troubleshoot basic electrical issues using knowledge of current, voltage, circuits, and power.
- Operate and supervise heavy equipment such as excavators, forklifts, skid steers, or wheel loaders.
- Hold or maintain relevant safety certifications such as H2S, CPR/First Aid, confined space, and customer-specific certifications.
- Work outdoors in cold, wet, and hot weather conditions.
- Remain away from home for 14 days or longer to complete rotations.
- Transport technicians between sites when required.
- Move between job sites and manage site operations and personnel.
- Share accommodations with coworkers and maintain a professional environment.
- Read, write, and communicate clearly in English.
- Complete the mentor certification program and handle personality-related issues appropriately.
- Pass a performance evaluation and bring at least 36 months of verifiable solids control experience to qualify for the role.
Education and experience
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
- An associate degree or technical diploma in Technology, Electronics, Mechanics, or a related field is preferred.
- Prior experience or certification in forklift, excavator, skid steer, or wheel loader operation is required; recertification training will be provided before starting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, is required.
- A valid driver’s license, valid insurance, and an acceptable driving record are required.
- The company vehicle must be maintained professionally and used in line with the vehicle policy.
- Applicants should have 3+ years of solids control field operations experience.
- More than 1 year of experience supervising and directing field staff is required.
- Hands-on leadership during rig-up and rig-down is expected, with a consistent focus on safe execution.
- Experience building a strong safety-and-productivity culture in field operations is necessary.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels and with customers is required.
- Experience reviewing technicians’ performance and safety records is required.
