Role overview
The St. John’s Farmers’ Market is hiring a full-time Facilities Coordinator to keep the market building and grounds clean, safe, and well maintained. This position combines routine cleaning, light upkeep, event preparation, and general facilities support in a busy community environment.
What you’ll do
- Keep all indoor and outdoor areas clean and orderly, including taking charge of regular and ongoing cleaning across the property.
- Guide and support other cleaning staff by setting priorities and sharing effective cleaning practices.
- Assist with setting up, taking down, and cleaning up after markets and events of different sizes.
- Carry out minor repairs and maintenance tasks, while also checking the building regularly for possible facilities issues.
- Help maintain occupational health and safety standards as well as food safety standards.
What the role calls for
- Availability to work every Saturday and Sunday as part of the normal weekly schedule is required.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision and stay on top of ongoing cleaning needs.
- Hands-on maintenance experience or familiarity with the upkeep of commercial spaces is an asset.
- Comfort with regular physical tasks, including cleaning, lifting, carrying tables, and setting up event spaces.
- Capacity to lift or move up to 40 pounds.
- Confidence in directing support staff when needed.
- A friendly, adaptable, outgoing approach suited to a busy, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
Bonus knowledge
- Experience with Newfoundland and Labrador food safety guidance or occupational health and safety rules would be an advantage, though it is not required.
- Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment or restaurant-kitchen cleaning would also be helpful, but is optional.
Schedule and pay
This is a full-time position with 35 hours per week. Pay is $22.00 per hour. Weekend work is part of the regular schedule, including both Saturday and Sunday each week.
