Job description
Role overview
The University’s Campus Cleaning Services team within Estates is hiring a Facilities Assistant to support the residences operation. The post focuses on delivering a reliable, customer-oriented facilities service in student accommodation, alongside routine compliance checks and general support tasks.
The wider Campus Cleaning Services function covers cleaning across 7,076 campus bedrooms, 479 hotel rooms and 65 University buildings.
Key duties
- Carry out minor non-specialist repairs and basic upkeep tasks.
- Report faults, damage or defects that need attention from a qualified technician.
- Handle simple maintenance tasks such as unblocking toilets and sinks, replacing shower fittings, resetting refrigerators, swapping Salto batteries and changing light bulbs.
- Clean and maintain entrance areas, windows, stairwells, walls, ceilings, light diffusers and other shared spaces to the required standard.
- Use and look after industrial and standard floor-care equipment.
Working pattern
This is a 36.5-hour per week position, scheduled across 5 days out of 7 and including Saturdays and Sundays on a rota. Standard working hours are Monday to Thursday from 08:30 to 17:00 and Friday from 08:30 to 16:00; weekend hours will vary as needed.
Candidate profile
The role suits someone who works well in a team and is committed to delivering strong service to students, staff and visitors. A reasonable level of physical activity is involved, and manual handling ability is required.
A full UK driving licence is essential because the role includes driving University fleet vehicles to move furniture, materials and staff. To be covered by the University vehicle insurance policy, the licence must be a full UK or EU-equivalent licence held for at least 1 year, with no serious driving convictions; any disqualification must have ended at least 1 year earlier.
Application details
Applications close on Wednesday 1 July 2026 at 11:55pm UK time. Candidates must submit an application form with two attachments: a CV and a cover letter. The CV should set out employment and education history, including the most recent role, and the cover letter should explain how the applicant meets the essential and desirable criteria in the job description with clear examples.
Applicants should ensure the essential criteria are clearly demonstrated, as the hiring panel may not shortlist applications that do not show them. Career breaks such as parental leave, caring responsibilities or long-term sickness absence may be included. The interview date is to be confirmed, as is the start date. Applications must be completed through the Warwick careers portal before the deadline, and the vacancy will close automatically at that time.
