Role overview
The Fabricator/Welder is responsible for carrying out fabrication and welding tasks to produce parts and assemblies that match drawings, plans, and customer specifications. The role calls for a solid understanding of general manufacturing methods and the ability to build custom components to exact requirements.
General responsibilities
- Confirm that the correct materials are issued to the customer.
- Check that supplied materials match the required quantities and lengths.
- Inspect materials to make sure they continue to meet quality expectations.
- Ensure that materials are labeled with the appropriate mark numbers when those numbers are required.
- Record inspection results and any rework performed on nonconforming or rejected material in the proper log.
- Suggest practical solutions for product or process-related issues.
- Carry out additional tasks assigned by supervisors or executive management.
- Contribute effectively in a team-based work environment.
Fabrication duties
- Complete fabrication work as required by the product specifications.
- Operate shear and brake equipment to create custom parts according to customer needs.
- Interpret custom part drawings accurately.
- Understand and apply bend allowances during fabrication.
Welding duties
- Perform welding work in line with the stated specifications.
- Choose the right materials and confirm the correct alloys are being used.
- Make sure welds comply with accepted company and industry standards.
- Alter or construct specialized equipment and jigs needed to produce the required configurations.
