Job description
Role overview
The Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht is recruiting Executive Officers with strong Irish language skills for offices in Galway. This is a junior management role within the Civil Service.
The Department works to advance rural and community development and promote the Irish language. Its focus is on building vibrant, inclusive and sustainable communities across Ireland, with particular emphasis on strengthening community capacity and social cohesion so people and communities are better equipped to meet current and future challenges.
The Office of the Coimisinéir Teanga operates as both an ombudsman service and a compliance body for Irish-language state services. It champions the public’s language rights and the language duties of the state system. The office delivers an independent, high-quality service while also carrying out the statutory responsibilities of the Coimisinéir to ensure state compliance with language rights.
What the role involves
Although Executive Officer posts can vary between organisations, the position typically includes project coordination and team management across business areas such as customer service, policy, legislation, research, and administration. Successful candidates will support the implementation of agreed departmental and government policies relating to the Gaeltacht and the Irish language, and will also contribute to the development of new policy for the sector.
