Role overview

The Executive Director of Operations will own and refine the organization’s daily operational engine, with a focus on efficiency, productivity, profitability, and sustainable growth. This senior leadership position is responsible for shaping operational direction, leading teams across functions, and making sure business processes support the company’s broader strategic goals.

Key responsibilities

  • Direct the organization’s everyday operations across multiple departments and business lines.
  • Create and roll out operating policies, procedures, and strategies that reinforce organizational objectives.
  • Improve operational performance by finding opportunities to increase efficiency, output, and cost effectiveness.
  • Track key performance indicators and other operational measures to confirm business targets are being met.
  • Work closely with executive leaders to plan and execute strategic initiatives.
  • Handle operational budgets, forecasts, and resource planning to strengthen overall performance.
  • Maintain compliance with internal policies, relevant industry requirements, and quality expectations.
  • Spot operational risks and put mitigation plans in place to support continuity of business activities.
  • Guide change initiatives and process improvement efforts across the organization.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams so operations run smoothly and projects are delivered effectively.
  • Oversee workforce planning, employee development, and performance management within operational teams.
  • Assess and adopt technology solutions that improve operational outcomes.
  • Develop strong working relationships with clients, vendors, partners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Prepare operational updates and present results to executive leadership and the board.

Qualifications

The role calls for a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Management, Finance, Engineering, or a related discipline. An MBA is preferred. Candidates should bring 8 to 15 years of progressive operations management experience, including senior leadership exposure, along with a track record of leading large operational functions and cross-functional teams.

Preferred capabilities

  • Background in strategic planning and organizational change.
  • Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, Agile, or similar operational excellence frameworks.
  • Strong project leadership and change management skills.
  • Experience with enterprise systems and business process automation tools.
