Overview

Role Summary
This position plays an essential role in supporting the Talbot County Department of Social Services. The job combines executive and director-level administrative assistance with responsibilities in risk prevention and mitigation, information technology, communication and outreach, finance, and personnel support.

Key Duties
- Oversee and coordinate the Director’s office operations.
- Handle administrative processes related to Service, FIA, CS, and LGA functions.
- Safeguard and organize confidential records and files.
- Partner with the Director to prepare agendas for executive team, management team, and all-staff meetings.
- Attend meetings and record minutes for executive and management discussions, including policy development, procedure review, budget planning, and personnel matters.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must satisfy all minimum and selective qualification requirements to be considered eligible.
Education: High school diploma from an accredited school or a recognized high school equivalency credential.
Experience: Three years of administrative support or professional-level work.
Substitution Options
- Thirty college credits from an accredited college or university may replace one year of experience, up to a maximum of two years.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for the required experience.
- Commissioned officer service in the U.S. Armed Forces may be accepted year-for-year if the service involved staff work requiring independent judgment, analysis, interpretation of complex administrative policies or plans, and recommendations for process improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least one year of executive-level administrative support experience.
- At least one year of hands-on use of Google Workspace tools such as Gmail, Calendar, Docs, and Sheets.
- At least one year of experience using virtual meeting tools such as Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams.
- At least one year of experience with SailPoint, Workday, and the State of Maryland Financial Management Information System (FMIS).
Licensing Requirement
This role may involve driving a motor vehicle. If assigned such duties, the employee must hold a valid Maryland driver’s license.
Selection and Evaluation
Applicants should make sure their application clearly demonstrates how they meet the requirements, since only information submitted by the closing date will be reviewed. Candidates who qualify will be ranked and placed on an eligible list for at least one year. Current State employees applying for promotion will have salary handled under Maryland State guidelines.
The review process is based on education, training, and experience as reflected in the application and matched against the role’s requirements. A supplemental questionnaire may also be required and may factor into the assessment.
If education was completed outside the United States, proof of equivalent U.S. education from a foreign credential evaluation service must be provided before hire.
