Role overview

The Environmental Services Aide works under the guidance of the Manager of Environmental Services or the Environmental Services Supervisor. This position supports housekeeping and laundry operations while following organizational policies, procedures, and applicable government rules. The role focuses on maintaining cleanliness, infection control, safety, and efficient service delivery across assigned areas.

Qualifications

  • Grade 9 level education (MB Standards).
  • Equivalent mixes of education and relevant experience may also be taken into account.
  • Strong manual dexterity and the ability to work efficiently.

Position summary

The Environmental Services Aide assists with all aspects of housekeeping and laundry services in line with established standards, procedures, and infection control requirements. The role includes completing assigned tasks, inspections, and inventory-related duties within set schedules and timeframes, while helping maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Help train and orient new Environmental Services staff and students when needed.
  • Follow department procedures to support consistent, high-quality service across Environmental Services.
  • Clean assigned spaces according to approved cleaning schedules and infection control standards.
  • Complete additional cleaning tasks within required deadlines and as scheduled.
  • Carry out end-of-shift checks in assigned areas to confirm cleanliness standards are met.
  • Keep equipment clean and functioning properly.
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks such as washing, mopping, waxing, vacuuming, polishing, and dusting using the right tools and products.
  • Clean bed frames and mattresses as required by schedule or need.
  • Collect waste and clean waste containers.
  • Maintain housekeeping carts, including cleaning them and replenishing supplies.
  • Handle laundry duties such as collecting, sorting, washing, drying, folding, and transporting linen and clothing.
  • Process laundry and linen according to established procedures, standards, and infection control guidelines.
  • Carry out minor repairs to laundry and linen items when required.
  • Distribute linen and laundry items where needed.
  • Replenish supplies in assigned areas.
  • Assist with inventory processes.
  • Participate in quality control audits and related departmental procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
